Cornwall 2015 :: Afternoon Walks

Hello Lovelies,
Thank you for all your kind comments on my holiday posts. Here's the final instalment :0)

As well as a morning walk, these days I sometimes get the luxury of an afternoon wander as well. It's so nice now the boys are older and they don't need me so much. Most days my sister in law and I left our offspring with their Dads and their Nanna for a little while.

Our favourite beach to visit has to be Porth. It suits our whole party...and parking right on the sand makes life so easy. We have been coming here, on and off, for many years. Though it's only now that I am getting to explore the local area a little.

On this afternoon we headed past the river Estuary, and stopped here a while to soak in the relaxed holiday vibe........

Families having fun in the water and on the sand  .............

A little further along the road climbs steeply and we found ourselves looking down on Whipsiderry beach.........

Such a contrast to Porth, still visible in the background.

We walked a little way along the South West Coastal path that runs along the cliff tops here....

I love the colours in this photo...the shades of blue and turquoise in the sea and the colours of the cliffs..........

Looking inland and towards Watergate bay we could make out spots of colour on the Boardmasters festival site. A zoomed in shot shows the mass of abandoned tents and rubbish waiting to be cleared away......

I'm sure the organisers remove all this, but it does make me a little sad that we live in such a throw away society.

On another sunny afternoon....the day of our departure....we walked in the opposite direction.

Passing pretty Lusty Glaze beach ..............

and looking towards the headland........

Oh, the colours of the sky and the ocean were stunning..........

the tide was a long way out and the beaches were huge.....

It might be hard to see but lots of people were enjoying surfing, body boarding,  or simply being in those beautiful waves............

We were happy to gaze down on all the fun and cherish our last few hours at the coast........

There are so many beaches at Newquay....each with it's own different vibe...........

Tolcarne beach looked very inviting but for us it was time to head back.

Back on Porth beach it was lovely to enjoy a little more crochet and a yummy cream tea....delicious with added strawberries........

As the sun sank and the cloud built I stood in the waves for one last time.........

And felt a little bit sad that our days on this favourite beach were almost over for another year.........

This spot has a special place in our life. We have built up so many happy holiday memories here over the years..... It's woven into our children's childhood and our own parenting journey.

These last two photos are of my Twins. "Eldest" and "Middle" son as they are known here. Though they are only 15 minutes apart in age :0)

Firstly them on Porth beach this year..........

and then , this one of them on their first ever holiday and first visit to Porth beach 14 years ago...........

 How blessed I am.

Corwall 2015 :: Ocean Light

Hello Lovelies,
thank you all so much for your lovely comments on my sunny holiday snaps.
I'll start this next instalment with a reality check :0)

This was Sunday....well, this is the British seaside..........

But, you know what, it wasn't cold and I kind of liked the change of mood.
The children still had fun in the waves.........

And the colour of the Ocean on a rainy day, though muted, was still very beautiful.

It amused me to stand in the shallows, wearing a cagoule to keep me dry, but getting my feet very wet..........

Chapel Rock was brooding and dark............

A seemingly constant presence....and yet much changed by the ocean in the last 100 years as seen HERE

This vast expanse of beautiful sand is Perranporth beach....The rugged coastline looked atmospheric and dramatic...........

And then...the next day,  Monday, the sun was back and the same view looked quiet different..............

Once again I was paddling.........

And Hubby and the children were in the sea....somewhere in the crowds..........

Chapel Rock had a stream of visitors waving from it's summit..........

And the beach was full of families having fun..........

Sunshine and sand do go together perfectly....it's all I really want on a seaside break.

And when the sun does shine, the light is amazing in Cornwall.

These next photos were taken on an evening visit to Crantock beach....the memories of THIS evening visit 2 years ago made a return trip high on my list of things to do.

We arrived about an hour before sunset, to dramatic clouds and a stiff breeze blowing in from the sea......

How I love the sunlight reflected off the ocean and the silhouetted surfers.....

While I took too many photos the boys flew a kite..........

It was chilly and I couldn't imagine getting into the water, even in a wetsuit.........

Eldest braved the shallows a little.........

But my feet were staying dry for once............

I even retreated to the dunes for a while.........

It didn't give much shelter but I did love the view ............

And the golden light...........

The rugged cliffs looked extra dramatic, bathed in the evening glow.........

Let me zoom in a little so you can see...........

As I sheltered from the wind I played around taking photos from different angles........

Eventually the sun lowered and the light turned really golden..........

Time to return to the beach..........

To hang out with the boys and watch the sunset together.......

Middle son took a few photos of his own..........

And then the cold got the better of me. Goodbye Crantock beach..........

I hope we will be back again some day.

The Perfect Start

Hello Lovelies,
sorry it's been quiet around here again.
We have been lucky enough to have another seaside break. This time with Mr BM's side of the family.

Last Saturday we woke at 4am and managed to get on the road before 5am.
You see we had a long and potentially busy journey to a place we have visited on and off since the boys were babies.

300 miles.... and five and a half hours  later we arrived. The journey had been busy towards the end but not too frustrating. And wow....how wonderful to be back on one of our favourite beaches on such a perfect, warm and sunny day...........

It's beautifully soft sand but in places there is shingle....rather uncomfortable to walk on........

But great for shell seeking.........

And after lunch on the beach and a bit of a snooze, we left the children with family and my sister in law and I enjoyed a walk along the headland..........

It was easy to imagine you were somewhere on the continent.........

We crossed the small wooden bridge onto Porth Island and watched swimmers in the turquoise sea.......

and gazed back towards the beach...trying to spot family in the sea........

Here we sat on the grass, quietly breathing in the sea air and watching the sparkling sunlight reflected on the waves..........

It's such a rugged and dramatic coastline. On the horizon we could just see the big marquee of the Boardmasters Music Festival at Wategate bay..........

There was certainly a happy vibe in the area. Groups of youngsters having a good time, mingling with the rest of the holiday makers.

But for us it was the colours....Oh The Colours..........

The Atlantic ocean is so stunning.

As we walked back to the beach we felt blessed at the perfect start to our precious week away.......

Back soon with more Cornish views lovelies.
