Hello Lovelies,
for a while now I've been considering joining in with a local walking group. They meet up on a Thursday morning, a day I regularly worked when my children were young, but not now.
I would like to walk more with my family, but the boys are less than keen these days....we do go, but sadly it's a battle. They are growing up so fast, yet they are not old enough to be left alone for too long. So a long walk with hubby is not possible as he works all week.
I do like walking alone, but I think walking with a group will be a safe and easy way to discover new paths and places.
Yesterday I took the plunge and contacted the walk organiser. I arranged to join them on an eight mile walk today.
We are to assemble here...........
I've partly been inspired to finally try this by reading all the positive things Diane has to say about her walking group experience. Look she even walked up Snowden HERE.
Now it's nearly time to go I'm full of nerves. It sounds like the pace is quiet slow, with eight miles taking four hours or so. I like to walk fast.
I'm also wondering if it will be awkward as I don't know anybody. And I'm wondering what to wear and take.
I've not had my walking boots for long....and I haven't walked more than five miles in them.....maybe I'd better pack plasters in case, and a rain coat and a hat and do you think a space blanket is overkill?....well, you never know.
And will they think I'm odd for taking lots of photos.
wish me luck Lovelies.......

Hi Jacquie,
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to join a group. I'm sure you'll find lots of people to talk with and they will be very welcoming. Good luck and enjoy yourself, love and hugs, Susie xxx
Good for you to join the group! Sounds like a great experience. I have never heard of one here in Germany but who knows - perhaps I just haven't listened carefully enough yet. :)
ReplyDeleteTake care

I think that's a wonderful idea. You'll meet new people who, I'm sure, will not think you odd for taking lots of photos. The space blanket might just be overkill unless, of course, you're going up Mt Snowden :) Have a lovely day and I look forward to seeing those photos. Elizabeth xx
ReplyDeleteI think that's a great idea, you will always have something to talk about as you are all walkers. Have a great time.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck ~ I'm sure it will be a very lovely walk :O)xx
ReplyDeleteI think they will be delighted to have you.....you are an enthusiastic walker so you will have a lot in common and if the pace is slower than your normal one well you will have breath to chat...tell them about your blog I`m sure it will explain the photos and gain you more readers.......have a wonderful walk. XX
ReplyDeleteI cant wait to read the follow-up to this post, this is something I have thought about doing for a while but not plucked up the courage yet. I hope you have a lovely walk today and look forward to hearing all about it. x
ReplyDeleteBest of luck! I totally get the nerves! You'll do great and hopefully make some new friends. I'd love to have a group like that to join, I need to check around who knows, maybe. It's nice to walk alone but all the time, not so fun. Look forward to hearing all about it!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you will have a great time and meet lots of lovely people. I understand it can be a bit daunting joining a new group though. I have registered for a taster session at a local "Rock Choir" - I'm really keen to try it, but also quite apprehensive. x
ReplyDeleteA brilliant idea to join a group, I've no doubt it will be inspiring and energising. I'm looking forward to hearing all about it. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteGoing in a group will be great fun. You won't be able to walk too fast because you'll be chatting with all your new friends. Hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI've read about your walks and seen the lovely photo's you've shared but I have also thought ought you to be walking down some of those field tracks by yourself? I know, a sad reflection of life today. I think walking as a group is a really good idea. Hope you enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI am sure you will have fun and make new friends, hope you enjoyed it and look forward to hearing about it.
ReplyDeleteThanks
The pace does seem slow to me too, I generally walk 3+ miles an hour! I think that's the usual pace of The Ramblers walking groups too. But that will give you plenty of time to take photos! And chat to the others. Have fun.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had fun on your walk and that you made some new friends

Hope you had a lovely day, looking forward to hearing all about it x
ReplyDeleteHmmmm...goodness gracious. So sorry for the one who commented before me.
ReplyDeleteIt is always a challenge for me to introduce myself to a new group, too, but I hope you have the best of times, Jacquie, and that you took just the right gear :) It is snow/rain/icing here today and I have another bunny on my knitting needles. So I am off to do some stitching! xx
Thanks Gracie, I'll write a post soon.
DeleteI've deleted the spam.
Enjoy your cosy knitting

I hope you have a perfect time and make new friends.. I know they will love you. I look forward to seeing how it all goes! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteYour group walk sounds like a wonderful idea. Walking at a slower pace may allow you to notice things more. Good for your photography!
ReplyDeleteI know that your walk is done now but I would love to see pictures of it and here how it went. I bet it felt wonderful to do something new.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have a walking group! I live in the rural midwest & walk with my dogs. I've just entered the empty nest & I'd love to have more socialisation. :) I've heard of hiking groups but none in my area.
ReplyDeletei hope it goes well & you have a great time.
I used to walk in a Group when I lived in England. They were a very friendly and welcoming Group, and everyone took turns to plan and lead the walks. These often incorporated a pub lunch- but not always.
ReplyDeleteHere in Norway there are similar groups based in the towns and villages- but instead of being called the Ramblers or "Place name" Walking Group they are known as The Fatties Walking Group- so I haven't joined. Can't think why not!
Good luck I hope it went well

You will love it and soon make friends, but I doubt you will have time to take many photos. Enjoy x
