Hello lovelies,
I hope you are not fed up with this little change from my usual yarny creativity. I'm sure I'll be hooking again soon , but right now I'm still rather enjoying myself with paper and pencils.
I'm so used to being able to share the creative side of my life here that it would now seem strange not to, and your encouragement means a lot.
Anyway , what have I been doodling this week ?
A part of my home regular readers will be familiar with.........my kitchen windowsill.
I love to display pretty flowers and things here, to look at while I'm cooking and washing up. It's also home to some bunting I made a couple of years ago and my Attic 24 birdie............
This picture sort of evolved from a desire to draw my favourite jug..........
It was an opportunity to sit down and try to draw accurately , noticing the light reflections and shadows. I was pleased and surprised with how it turned out.
I also popped this colourful utensil jar in the picture as it's also a favourite thing of mine, it was a wedding present, so that will be sixteen years that it's been pretty and useful in my kitchen........
It was more fun than I thought copying such a detailed pattern , but I did edit the utensils somewhat :0).....
And here is the finished picture.........
I really love all the colour in this one. It makes me happy when I look at it and I enjoyed drawing this subject immensely.I just wish the photo was better.
The windowsill may have been a bit of a still life exercise but the garden was pure imagination . My window looks out over our bins and the house next door , but in my drawing I added a pretty spring garden , with a shed , a vegetable bed ( hope mine will look like that soon ) and spring flowers ....the one in the pot is supposed to be bleeding heart....not sure I quite captured it :0)
I've included tom tit , you can just see him far left, and a blackbird........ as whenever I look out at my own garden there is always a blackbird looking for worms.
Hope you lovelies are finding chance to notice the changing seasons....whether it's Spring or Autumn....both so beautiful.
Thank you for coming with me on this drawing adventure :0)

There's a book illustrator in there.....your pictures would look great in a little book, next thing is to write the story! Have a great day! :) x
ReplyDeleteyour drawings are lovely Jacquie. I love the colour and all the detail. Perhaps you could make a set of cards? I do especially love this one at the window! Heather x
ReplyDeleteLovely drawings and colours too.... you have a good steady hand...

So lovely to see your creative artistic side having such fun reproducing the world around you. I like your window composition, especially the red star jug and little tom tit!
ReplyDeleteOh I really love it! I can see you will soon be selling your work, and taking commissions. Your drawings always make me smile and feel nostalgic and happy. I can imagine your work inside children's books too. So clever of you to add a pretty garden, it looks so right in the picture. I really love your work! :) xx
ReplyDeletelove your naive drawings!!!

ReplyDeleteYou need to turn that pic into a card, its lovely.

I can see how your sketching is evolving, there is nice shadow behind the jug and utensil jar. The colours are lovely too, lovely bright and fresh. Thanks for sharing.

Isn't it lovely how you can change things in a picture to how you would like them to be, which of course you can't do with a photograph. Actually I suppose these days you can probably do it with a photograph too, but I wouldn't know how!!!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, your picture is lovely, and bright and cheerful!
Oh and thank you for your lovely comments on mine!
Happy drawing!

I'm really enjoying your drawing posts. I'd like to get back to drawing & painting but it's been so long I fear I'd be completely useless, that and I'd struggle to make time at the moment. It's good to follow your experiences instead...
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely picture - I would like that on my wall. You have managed to capture the roundness (is that a word!) of the jug and utensils container really well. I love the pretty garden too - your attention to detail is amazing. I look forward to seeing more of your pictures. Lily. xxx
ReplyDeleteI am envious of anyone who can draw as it's a skill I just don't have! Your drawings are lovely and I agree, you should put them into print. Such lovely colours.
ReplyDeleteHello Jacquie,
ReplyDeleteYou are getting better with each drawing. I really love the garden that the window is overlooking. Looks seasonally correct too. Bleeding hearts, daffodils, carrots and onions(greens peeping out) seem right for late spring.
I have never been good at art, my skills limited to drawing stick figures. But now seeing yours, I bought watercolor pencils recently and have started drawing. And a lot to learn from you. Used your mum's tip of shadows to prevent things floating around in the drawing.
Thanks for everything that you do. Great inspiration.

Hello Jacqui
ReplyDeleteWonderful, drawings each one getting better, I do like the garden, you have managed to capture the moment brilliantly. They would look marvellous as prints, and I so envy your talent.

ReplyDeleteAdorable! I really think you should frame this and hang it in the kitchen. :)
ReplyDeleteI think you should delve into illustrating for children's books. Your drawings are magical.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see your other creative side. I was showing my daughter your drawings (she's 33) and she thinks it's absolutely wonderful that you've got this newly developed talent. I think so too. Nice to have a change than always crocheting. Love your blog no matter what you post.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing pictures of your drawings, in a funny way they are like your crochet - filled with colour and happiness. I really like the little details, like the little blackbird and the seeds. Carry on drawing!!
ReplyDeleteCheerful and cute! Love them. I do hope you find some lovely frames and hang them! :)
ReplyDeleteYou do have a natural talent for drawing, Jacquie. I studied art many years ago and getting the proportions and angles right on the jug and window would not have been easy, and you've made it look very easy!
ReplyDeleteI love the imagination and colour in your drawings - keep creating them and showing them to us!!

I love your drawings... Glad you share them here, as it motivates me to keep playing with paper and pencil, too! I'm no artist, but I like to try. Also, I should say, that your blog is so sweet I passed on the Super Sweet Blogging Award to you! If you don't accept awards, that's ok. Just know I find yours to be such a 'treat'! Happy Day!
ReplyDeleteYour drawings are lovely. I would gladly have one of them in my kitchen to cheer me up on a cold day. Keep it up you have a real talent.
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely drawing, and what a good idea drawing in things how you'd like them to be!
ReplyDeletehi Jacquie, I have found some sketches you might like. Check them out here:
