Hello Lovelies,
Last week I was making crochet Snowdrops HERE and this weekend I've been making more spring flowers.
This time I've gone really delicate and used embroidery thread..........
My main inspiration for these flowers was THIS wonderful flower necklace.
I used a tiny 2 mm hook started making these little circles........
Working with such a fine, splitty thread and such a small hook was something of a challenge. I took my work to the bedroom as it gets good light, popped my glasses on and worked away. I made lots of mistakes but I loved the cute little flowers that were slowly appearing so much that I persevered.........
I used a golden yellow for the centres and all the petals were made in this gorgeous cream.........
Because I wanted to create a bunch of delicate wild Primroses, like THIS
P is for Primrose :0)
I modified Joey's sweet flower pattern slightly and I made up my own leaf pattern as I couldn't find just the right, rounded shape anywhere...........
Despite the trickiness of the tiny yarn I really enjoyed quietly hooking away on a showery winters day, dreaming of Spring..........
S is for Spring :0)
The wind blew and the rain lashed at the windows...........
But I was so happy indoors, with my sweet bunch of Primroses............
Of course I wasn't just making them to arrange on my sketchbook, though that was fun. And I wan't making a necklace either....though I would love to make one of those too.
When I picked up the tiny vase for my Snowdrops last week I also happened across this cute pottery basket on the charity shop shelves.
It caught my eye straight away as something that would look lovely filled with felt or crochet flowers..........
But how to make it work, how to arrange the flowers?
In the end the idea to treat it a bit like a pincushion popped into my head. I do love it when my creative brain solves this sort of problem for me. I think about it and think about it with no progress, then suddenly...ping, the solution is clear.
I got some stuffing, wrapped it in fabric and squeezed it in my basket............
Them I started pinning. First the leaves.............
Then , using my little green pins, the flowers............
It took only a few moments to finish my project............
Eeeek, I love it :0)
I rearranged the leaves and flowers a bit further and loved it even more!..........
Both this basket and my vase of crochet Snowdrops are destined to be part of my "Spring Shelves" on my Welsh dresser.....I'm going to enjoy playing around, decorating it for my favourite season, so much.

ReplyDeletehow cute is that? ... it looks soooo beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI am really looking forward to seeing the spring shelf on the dresser. Another stunning spring arrangement.
ReplyDeleteAww, so cute!
ReplyDeleteAw my gosh that is super cute- imagine a bunch of those little Primroses in a teacup like that! I like the ceramic basket, though. It's very country charming. -Autumn
ReplyDeleteEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!!! What a FANTASTIC idea! I am sometimes put off with a lot of crocheted kitsch for around the house but this is perfect. Year long flowers that are not plastic AND you can crochet different flowers throughout the year. Oh Jacquie you are a star, and I didn't think it was possible to love your blog any more than I did...I was wrong xxxx
ReplyDeleteWow they're beautiful! And I love the spring flower idea! Cheeky question, but do you know of a good bluebell pattern? I've had a look and not found anything much :s xxx

DeleteHi Helen, I have used (and liked) this knitted bluebell pattern from Frankie Brown on Ravelry. (It's a free pattern but she asks if you will consider donating to the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation). It's part of her Woodland Wreath series, all free, which I have in progress at the moment. Hope Jacquie doesn't mind me butting in with this :-)

Hi Marje , thank you so much for leaving this link. I'm afraid I don't know of a crochet bluebell pattern, but Ravelry is a great place to look .

Oh, they are soooo cute! I love the fact that you just used green pins to hold them in place - genius.
ReplyDeleteI thought that your snowdrops were beautiful - I still do! - but these are really stunning Jacquie, especially arranged in that little basket with the pin middles, it really is charming so very pretty for the time of year!! You really are a clever clever lady! xx
ReplyDeleteYou have inspired me to learn to crochet, I have made a start and have ordered a full set of hooks, bought 2 books and am shopping for yarn during the week. Those flowers are amazing, if I can do half as well I will be happy.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant - they look gorgeous xx
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet little make, primroses are sooooo cute I always pin the flowers onto my wreaths too

ReplyDeleteThat is really lovely, I would love to make something similar, especially as my daughter's middle name is Primrose! What a lucky find you had with the basket
ReplyDeleteCaz xx
so cute! I have the embroidery thread (donated by my Mum) and the book 100 Flowers to Knit and Crochet, just need to stop making baby things for various friends and work colleagues and do something for me!
ReplyDeleteThose posies are adorable...the colors you chose really do signal early springtime! You are one patient lady to be able to keep going with such fine work.
ReplyDeleteBravo!
What dainty little primroses in embroidery thread! The leaves are the perfect shape too! Isn't it wonderful to see these little flowers popping up in nature too!
ReplyDeleteWhat brilliant little flowers, they're wonderful. So beautifully made, and they look lovely in the china basket. Clever you!
ReplyDeleteYour basket of primroses is sheer delight Jacquie - those little flowers are so very sweet and conjure up many memories for me; what a wonderful job you did with the embroidery thread - not an easy task! Joy x
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are amazing and what a wonderful way to brighten up an otherwise dull day weatherwise.
ReplyDeleteIt's really lovely. Love the photo of you holding the basket. I hadn't realised quite how teeny it was until that point.

so pretty, not sure I have the patience for such teeny crochet but they look great! x
ReplyDeleteJacquie your primroses are absolutely scrummy, just perfect in that little ceramic basket.
ReplyDeleteYour Primroses are stunning.

Love the Primroses they have brightened up yet another wet day :-)
ReplyDeleteSo delicate! Beautiful and Spring like.
ReplyDeleteYour primroses are adorable!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous project and no watering required
ReplyDeleteSo cute and a great idea to use up excess thread.
ReplyDeleteFantastic idea! LOVE this!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! Wonderful outcome too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever idea and of course using pins means you can change the flowers easily if you feel like hooking up alternatives! I find a 2 mm hook so fiddly though! Well done you for keeping going with it! E x
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! it looks fantastic. I've never tried such tiny crochet, I imagine it was quite tricky with embroidery thread. Well worth the effort though, and so realistic! Ooh spring is coming :)

They are just gorgeous,

ReplyDeleteYour little basket looks lovely! It must have made your fingers ache, working with a small hook.
ReplyDeleteabsolutely so cute its wonderful always come back to your blogg again and again it is inspiring thanks so much for thisxx
ReplyDeleteSo sweet! I love doing teeny-tiny crochet projects like that as I learnt to crochet using a 1.5mm hook and really fine crochet cotton. I doubt I could see to do it now!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic idea. The little flowers are terrific and the 'basket' sets them off beautifully.
ReplyDeleteLovely!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for referencing my pattern. It's adorable what you made here. I'll be following you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. I have many half skeins of embroidery thread and had never thought of using them for crochet - thanks for the inspiration. Regards Lynette.
