This evening I'm hoping you might like to see my latest thrifty finds.
I've been so unlucky in the charity shops lately but last week I struck gold:0)
Yes , three beautifully hand embroidered cross stitch pictures for £1.49 !! How lucky is that. I'm sure the kits to make these beauties must have been quite expensive...not to mention the hours and hours of work that has gone into them. I love this cute little hedgehog.........
And this dresser top with it's pretty crockery and hanging hearts, how perfect.....
The third one is much bigger, about 12 inches by 10 inches . There must be hundreds of hours of painstaking work in this picture with it's patterned plates and pretty tulips, just stunning......
I'm not sure what I will do with this large picture, but I think it deserves to be seen and admired.
I would love to include the smaller pictures in some patchwork ...but it may be a while before I get a chance to do that.
It's a little odd wonder about the reason they were donated .
At least , though the person who laboured over these beauties will probably never know it, they are being seen and I'm sure admired ,by lots of people here now.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Other people always seem to have so much more luck than me in thrift stores!
ReplyDeleteHow lucky...the embroidery cottons alone would amount to much more than that...and as you say the time employed to make them. they also look very neatly done. The last one most particularly!!
ReplyDeleteAmanda :-)
Lucky ducky! The hedgehog one is my favorite and I am sure whoever stitched them would be so happy to know their project is greatly loved.
ReplyDeleteWow....what a find! These are awesome....especially that large one! I used to cross-stitch all the time & I know how much time went into these. Glad you can enjoy them! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI am glad that you they are getting the admiration and attention they deserve:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea of adding the cross stitch to a patchwork piece. I am sure someone had hours of enjoyment making these, and would be thrilled to know that they are being made into something lovely! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely, I've found some wonderful pieces too. I've recently started following your lovely blog, just wanted to say hello :D
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely find! I like all these cross-stitch pictures for different reasons. The dresser top is very charming in its neat simplicity - that would look lovely framed in a dining-room area. That last one is amazing and a great many painstaking hours certainly went into its creation. I love the way the subjects come out of the frame and the 3D effect of the cloth at the bottom, very clever and beautifully made! I used to do lots of cross-stitch before my passions for crochet and photography sort of took over! Also, all that tiny stitching is hard on the eyes.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend!
Lovely find! glad that you are giving enough coverage here for the true work behind!
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful. I've done alot of cross stitch in my time so I know how much work went into these. Sad they were donated but at least they've found a loving home. Enjoy. xxx

Wow! What a bargain :) Seeing those lovely works makes me want to get out my needle & cloth this weekend. I have alot of finished stitchery projects rolled up in drawers...so someday I'm sure they'll end up in a second hand shop somewhere too!

Hey Jacquie, what fab finds..........love the hedgie it's just too cute and the dresser top is lovely. The amount of time and effort that has gone into the last one is amazing. I can't understand why someone would send the to the Charity shop but hey, lucky you eh?
ReplyDeleteSo glad you bought them, at least they will be admired, appreciated and one day repurposed.

Hi Jacquie! It's been a while since I read your blog, which I appreciate very much. I couldn't resist to post a comment today, since cross stitch is one of my passions. In fact, I myself embroidered the third one you showed with plates and tulips! Actually, I embroidered two for two sisters. And believe me, they didn't cost only £1.49! Lucky you, indeed. Lots of love from Portugal. Margarida

Great find! The big one must have taken hours to do. Sad that all that work ended up for sale at such a small amount in a cs but wonderful that they will now be loved and appreciated.

They're great! What pretty colours! It's a good idea to use them for patchwork.
ReplyDeleteI've got a lot of finished cross-stitch pictures stashed away. It's sad that they don't see the light of day, but it's so expensive to have them framed. They might find their way to a charity shop sometime, but now I have the idea of patchwork...
I wonder if the stitcher had recently passed away and they had been donated by her family. So lovely they were rescuedcbybsomeone who appreciates the time and effort put into them,.
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful and such a good price for them!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find, I'm glad they have ended up somewhere where they will be loved
ReplyDeleteI love that one with the dresser! It does make me wonder what will happen to all my craftwork when I'm gone... it'll end up unloved in the charity shop no doubt so I hope there's someone like you to rescue it!
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful photos. The flowers are lovely, but my favourite is Sparkle ... what a star!
ReplyDeleteLovely find :) I have a beautiful cross stitch picture with two owls on that I found in a local charity shop a couple of years ago. It was already framed and it hangs in my sitting room. I hope whoever made these (and my picture) would be happy to know that they are being enjoyed by someone else x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cross stitch finds.
ReplyDeleteHmm . . . . well I have a few cross stitch pictures that I started, and my sister finished . . . and I've never done ANYTHING with them . . . they are rolled up in a bag in my wardrobe! Criminal!
Framing costs so much money though!
