This Blustery Morning

Hello Lovelies,
it's a "hold on to your hat" sort of day here . The wind is really roaring in the chimney. Leaves are flying through the air and swirling in the street.

Thankfully I've had to stay indoors to wait for a delivery . It's given me bit of time to slow down and notice the things on my kitchen windowsill......like my Amaryllis beginning to grow.........

And this little twig of amazing blossom. While walking with MrBM on Saturday I noticed a tree in blossom.
It was dark so I thought I may have been mistaken . Sneakily I snapped off this bit, brought it home and popped it into some water............

It's stunning but I am puzzled. No trees flower in December do they?

This is a more seasonal sight........a stew in my slow cooker. I love preparing one in the morning , then leaving it to do it's thing all day. It will be very welcome when all the family are home from work and school this evening............

When I when into my chilly conservatory to load the tumble dryer I was horrified to see what looked like a dead squirrel hanging in the tree. It was waving in the wind and I thought it must have got trapped in one of my bird feeders.
Thankfully a zoom shot showed it was not dead or trapped , just doing some acrobatics to access the peanut feeder :0)

Here it is the right way up again .........

 Phew

After my nasty shock I felt the need for a cup of strong tea and a bit of my mum in laws yummy cake.........

I'm working on a Christmas prezzie so I can't tell you too much about these stripes at the moment. They are rather plain but embellishment is planned.........I'm hopeful it will turn out well.........

All will be revealed after the big day

In the last hour the sun has come out and shown up how badly my windows need cleaning! It's low rays shine right across the room and glitter on my rainbow maker..........

I was  balancing on a chair in the window taking this picture when my goods arrived, I wonder what the delivery man thought?

See you later lovelies, it's time to brave the wind and head to the supermarket.  Thank you for all your sweet comments about my drawing, they are so encouraging.
Jacquie x

Edited to Add thank you to my lovely commentor Helen  who told me about the Winter flowering Cherry.....I need one of these :0)

  1. Hi Jacquie, there are some winter-flowering cherry trees and I think this is one of them. Scarily windy here too (Manchester) as is all of UK, over 100 mph winds in some places. I always look forward to reading your blog and what is going on in your world, have made lots of your crochet patterns too, thank you. Apologies if this is a duplicate post, I clicked Publish and then it disappeared but maybe it's in there somewhere :) Marje x

  2. It's a biting wind here in the south too. Even my youngest didn't want to walk to school as it was sooooooo cold on the face! Gosh, I didn't know any cherry trees flowered in the winter....how lovely. I need one of those in my bare garden to cheer me up through the winter I think! And yes, slow cookers are the BEST thing in the winter. The smell that wafts throughout the house during the day leading to a hearty warm meal in the evening. What could be better?!

Enjoy the rest of your blustery day!

  4. The wind is blowing like mad here and the lights keep flickering! I hope that the power doesn't go off. So funny that the delivery man caught you balancing taking a photo! I wonder if he realises that is perfectly normal behaviour for a blogger!!! Stay safe and keep warm. xx

Good idea to close the curtains and curl up with some crochet.

  6. We are starting to feel the winds now here in the NL, the children were finding it all rather fun at home time. Cwtching up on the sofa with crochet sounds like a good idea.

  7. We've got a winter flowering cherry tree in the garden, so nice to have blossom at this time of year. It's very chilly and blustery today, the perfect weather for stew or soup! I love the window crystal, must make beautiful reflections

  8. Home - the perfect place to be on a day like this! Hope the wind doesn't do too much damage near you, and you all enjoy your stew. I'm making butternut squash soup and bread for supper.
Your squirrel picture reminded me of a similar incident last winter. The postman knocked on the door, with a very sad face, and let me know that a wood pigeon had got caught, and tangled in the barbed wire fence, next to the farmers field. I went outside to see what had happened, to find it holding on to the fence with one foot and pushing the feeder away to spill the seed on the ground! I've watched them do it regularly now - but it does look a bit odd! x

  14. I hope you don't suffer too much in the storm and stay safe. I had to smile at you photographing the rainbow capture as the delivery man appeared! I was once taking pictures of trees on the way to work -one of my colleagues saw me and thought I was very strange!

  15. I live on a 1950's estate, and one of the roads is lined either side with winter flowering cherries - they are lovely ... must go down there and have a look!

  16. It definitely is a "batten down the hatches" type of day! You found what looks to be a very confused tree, I wonder if it will make it through the winter? The squirrel made me laugh, crafty little fellow! And I have dusted off my slow cooker as well, it's that time of year! Best to you, Chrissie x

  22. Your blue crochet is lovely. It may well not need much in embellishment except the border.
Your blustery weather has made the news here in Australia. I do hope it settles soon. We are waiting for the wind to change direction again. It is coming from the south and it is so cold. We had temperatures in the low 30s on Tuesday (that's in the high 80s in the old money), and yesterday it was only 9 degrees! I don't know about today : all I do know is I am sitting on top of my column heater in the study!
    Stay safe, stay warm.

Cunning little fellows the squirrels, very clever. Great way to relax with a cuppa, cake and crochet, lovely colour, wonder what it will be.

  26. A winter flowering cherry? I'm off to the garden centre tomorrow to get one, how beautiful to have that in the garden in December! Phew indeed regarding the squirrel, they are masters of the trapeze aren't they. Hope you kept safe and warm on your trip out, that was rather a nasty storm this time. Enjoy the crochet! xx

  29. No blustery wind here where we live in Australia. It has been a warm sunny day with clear blue skies. Perfect for being in the garden. You have shared lovely photos with us as usual. Thank you.

  30. The cherry blossom is very pretty and that Amaryllis will put on fine show I am sure when it's ready to strut it's stuff. Squirrels are very daring creatures and will do amazing things to get at the bird nuts.
Such pretty crockery and the cake looks yummy.
Looking forward to the big reveal on your secret project.

  31. Haha! That upside down view of a squirrel is a regular around here. Reminds me of the time I accidentally startled one like this and he got caught somehow by his back foot. I was so worried--he just hung there struggling. When I tried to maybe rescue him (I had no good plan) he went berserk and scrambled away. I had to check to see if he had left his paw behind. Phew! He hadn't.

  32. That winter flowering cherry is beautiful. I noticed a similar blossom covered tree in RHS Harlow Carr at the weekend and was captivated by it - I wonder if it was the same one. Always lovely to see some colour in the trees at this time of year. x
