Hello Lovelies,
Now the days are longer than the nights it really feels like winter is over. I can ( and did ) find things to love about winter... as I can about all the seasons..... but I can't deny I'm more than ready for some warmer weather now.
Yesterday morning I had an appointment at the dentists mid morning, but it was such a beautiful day I couldn't resist a quick walk before I headed into town.
I passed the cows, who were enjoying the sunshine...........
I loved the suns rays streaming through the clouds and illuminating a patch of field here......
I decided to walk to the quiet little church that I love so much.....past the dignified war memorial I felt a touch of sadness........such tragic headlines in the news right now..........
But this is my happy space really. My spirits were instantly lifted when I see there are Primroses nestled under the hedge...........
There is nobody about and I spend some time photographing these spring delights........
They are dripping with melted frost............
Their fresh green leaves and delicate cream flowers, with a perfect yellow centre, are so cheerful..........
By the time I walk through the church gate I'm singing happily to myself......a SONG that always magically comes to my lips at this time of year.......
Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here.
Here comes the sun, and I say,
it's all right.
It's a bit of an odd place to be singing happy songs maybe. A graveyard. I don't dwell on the headstones, just enjoy the peace.
One headstone that I do like looking at is this one for a lady who lived almost one hundred years..........
what a lovely inscription.
Even the path is covered in little green shoots..............
I love the woods in spring....when it's flooded with sunlight and carpeted in green...........
A little further on this pretty garden caught my eye..........
And then I realised it was nearly time to leave for the dentists. I hurried along the street. But despite my rush I just had to stop and take a quick picture of these stunning orange blooms.....I have no idea what they are............
In town the trees are pink..........
And the dental hygienist was happy with teeth, Phew.
Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces.
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here.
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun, and I say,
it's all right.
These days music doesn't feature so much in my days. I'm happy with quiet, or birdsong....but somehow, yesterday was a musical sort of day.

I grew up with that song. :) Now that truly is a lovely thing to have on a gravestone. Makes me wish I'd met her! Autumn coming here Downunder but actually I'm just as glad about that. No more crushing heat! Happy trees! Can put whole afghans on lap to crochet round edges without being cooked! Woo hoo!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the virtual walk.

What a lovely walk Jacquie. thank you for sharing with us. lovely pictures. I have always loved going around old graveyards and took my daughter when she was tiny.We had one next to a park we used to go to, so always went to read the headstones. And now she is grown up and still loves to walk around reading all the lovely old sayings. And finds it nice and peaceful.

Beautiful pics!!Spring is arrived :-) wow!
ReplyDeleteA lovely walk as always.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures and a lovely day. Thank you for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful primroses, your photo of them with the church in the background is wonderful. I don't know what the orange flowers are either, but they're very familiar to me as they were in the garden when I was little. I shall check back later and see if anyone has identified them. Glad you managed such a lovely walk before the dentist - something to take your mind off of it! CJ xx
ReplyDeleteКакая прекрасная прогулка! Обожаю такие фотографии! Чудесная весна!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely walk, and so nice to enjoy the sun. I was hoping to spend some time outside today - but Winter has returned! So it was especially nice to see your sunny pictures. x
ReplyDeleteWonderful post as usual, Jacquie. I think your orange blossoms are Berberis. Quite common here in Ireland.
ReplyDeleteYou've taken pictures of the cows. My day is complete :-) xx
ReplyDeleteI love your walks Jacquie, peace flows out of them. I enjoy reading headstones too, I walk through a graveyard sometimes on my way to a playgroup with the kids and I find it such a peaceful space. X
ReplyDeleteI'm humming that song now. Ha! But a good one this time of year. I always feel peace in a graveyard, I guess it comes from growing up near one, as a child we'd play in the empty well manicured sections and I'd stroll through enjoying all the different flowers. What beautiful orange blossoms. I was out just taking pictures of some orange daffodils.: ) Enjoy the spring.x
ReplyDeleteSpring has certainly sprung in your neck of the woods! We are hunkering down here. Today was a wintry blast so the log fire was kept alight all day. Which is good. We've just ducted the heating through the house by putting in a collector vent that draws the warmth at ceiling height and drops it through the vents into the rooms. It's made a huge difference to the comfort of the house as a whole! Winter will be much nicer here.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the greening and brightening of your corner.
A lovely walk! I recognise the orange flowers, but cannot remember the name! I am sure you will find out! xx
ReplyDeleteJacquie, I can see why you would want to take that walk, and why that lovely tune came to mind. You are so kind to share your springtime views with the rest of us who are still thawing out.

Love that last picture of the backlit blossom.
ReplyDeleteHi Jacquie :) I'm pretty sure that your mystery orange flower is berberis. We had one in my garden where I grew up, and I remember the stems being bright orange inside when you cut them, but it was rather prickly. Your primrose photos are glorious. The palest yellow petals and green leaves against the backdrop of an old church couldn't be much more spring-like :)

The Dash
by Linda Ellis copyright 1996
I read of a man who stood to speak
at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on the tombstone
from the beginning…to the end.
He noted that first came the date of birth
and spoke the following date with tears,
but he said what mattered most of all
was the dash between those years.
For that dash represents all the time
that they spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved them
know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own,
the cars…the house…the cash.
What matters is how we live and love
and how we spend our dash.
So, think about this long and hard.
Are there things you’d like to change?
For you never know how much time is left
that can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough
to consider what’s true and real
and always try to understand
the way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger
and show appreciation more
and love the people in our lives
like we’ve never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect
and more often wear a smile,
remembering that this special dash
might only last a little while.
So, when your eulogy is being read,
with your life’s actions to rehash…
would you be proud of the things they say
about how you spent YOUR dash?
A lovely walk, the headstone was very inspirational, and your song! I found this orange bush today too, amazing colour, no idea what it is. X
ReplyDeleteSo lovely pictures - again!
