Hello Lovelies,
back in February I was doing some on-line research into family walks and came across THIS interesting sounding walk .
Somehow six months whizzed by and we still hadn't got around to doing it.
Happily we woke to sunshine on Sunday, despite a dodgy weather forcast for the day. We decided to risk the predicted showers and head off up the motorway to the village of Baslow in the Peak District National park.
The sun was still shining when we arrived and began climbing up through steep streets, passing pretty stone houses.....to a lass from Yorkshire this is always a joy........
Soon the path was climbing steeply and we left the houses behind.........
The countryside looked green and lush.......
And in the distance we noticed the letters ER in the hillside. Presumably in was created to celebrate the Queens Jubilee........
The track was quiet busy. We saw lots of walkers, cyclists, Riders and even runners heading up the hill.........
We were making much steadier progress, poor youngest was fast getting blisters from his suddenly too small walking boots. Here he sat down and refused to walk any further for a while.......
I did feel bad for him....but I was also distracted by the gorgeous heather......
It was covered in Bees.......
and looked so beautiful in this natural setting...........
My BM and I helped youngest up the final rocky section of path while the older boys walked ahead........
We were rewarded by this gorgeous view.........
If I zoom in you can see Chatsworth House in the valley below us...........
On the open moorland here there is a very prominent natural rock formation........
The Eagle Stone
In memory of the Duke of Wellington..........
My BM kindly took a photo of me here. As you can see it was a warm day and I loved walking in a dress.........
In the photo I'm also holding the route for our walk, but due to youngest's blisters we had to abandon any further exploration.
After a short stop for a drink and a snack we began the decent. I was a bit sad to leave to lovely Heather behind .........
How I love high places with a view into the valley below..........
soon we were back amongst the houses........
As they floated past us we couldn't resist trying to catch a few.........
And when we reached the bottom of the hill it became obvious were they were all coming from..........
I large patch of Thistles all producing Thistledown...........
Our walk may have been shorter than I really would have liked but I was still happy we made the journey. It was so nice to get at least a taste of what this area has to offer.
And the sweet shop by the car park made the boys smile..........
As it was so warm the ice cream seemed the most appealing treat. Mint choc chip.........
My childhood favourite too :0)
On this occasion I resisted all the sweet temptations inside the shop, though we grown ups did indulge in a cup of tea and a shared a huge scone from THIS gorgeous little cafe.
And how could I resist a bunch of Dahlias from the table outside the sweet shop.........
As we travelled home the weather broke and I was so glad we made the most of a sunny morning.
And the bunch of flowers I brought home have been cheering me up all week........
Oh the colour, oh the pattern........
Mother nature is amazing.

p.s. I'm just testing the water over on Instagram..... I hope some of you lovelies might be able to join me there. There is now a button in my side bar, near my profile.
Stunning views x
ReplyDeleteWhat a heavenly walk!!! Took me right back to a visit I did a number of years ago in the Lake District..part of the coast to coast walk! A perfect way to start the day. The heather.......with the bees.....ahhhhhhhhhh.....thank you! Loved it!!
ReplyDeleteOh how I miss the heather of my younger days! So beautiful and thanks for sharing. Susie xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks for haring the walk. You got some lovely photos too. You'll have to carry Competed plasters in future. I'm not a walker but on our Lake Garda tour a cha got humongous ones & the walkers sent me to the chemist for them. They swore by them & they did work. I'm carrying them with me now on all my tours just in case!
ReplyDeleteHope the blisters are better now. They're so painful bless him.
what wonderful views and walk, bet the ice cream was gratefully received lol love the dahlias.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful environment you live in.
ReplyDeleteLovely! I've been on Baslow Edge myself today - next time you go (it it's a weekend) you'll have to pay Jolly's Catering a visit on the Curbar Gap car park :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous walk. I love to be high up with views as well, and how amazing to be able to see Chatsworth. I used to call those seeds fairies too. If you found one and set it free to fly away you could make a wish. I hope you youngest's feet heal quickly. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful Sunday outing. Too bad about the blisters, maybe the next trip will be better for him. Lovely, views, and LOVE the heather! The dahlias are pretty. I recently made a few out of paper, huge ones, 18 inches across (pics on flickr). A easy project great for parties or to just add a punch of color to a bare wall. Enjoy the weekend!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful walk and beautiful pictures xo

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful walk!!! I love your picture of the bee on the heather. I hope that your youngest is all recovered now, blisters are no fun are they. xx
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much for whetting my appetite! We are visiting Chatsworth in November so I am looking forward to seeing the surrounding countryside with the autumnal colours. Such a beautiful walk and a shame that your little one's feet couldn't take any more. My daughter is the same but she will wear the most inappropriate shoes!! Have a wonderful bank holiday weekend xx
ReplyDeleteJacquie, I think by now you do know how much I love seeing the views that you capture in the photos along all your walks.
ReplyDeleteThis one was a beauty! I hope that your child's feet will soon recover. Hoping that when that child might look back years from now at this post (let's hope future tech holds on to this era's posts) it will bring back lovely memories of all that you saw.
Even as I type this comment, I would like to add that I wish that folks younger than I could have the chance to experience the NYC that greeted me back in the 1960s.
I guess that each generation finds its own treasures, and finds ways to filter them through memorabilia they might have encountered.
Nature is the best guide...don't you think?
xo
Wonderful post Jacquie!
ReplyDeleteThat dear picture of your son refusing to walk any further brought back memories...
Many Thanks~
