First Flowers Baby Blanket

Hello Lovelies,
I've been meaning to write a post about one of the recent  baby blankets I have made for a couple of weeks now. I'm so glad I've finally found the time. It's always lovely to share these things with you all and it's also a great reference for me to look back on.

The first image is from my diary. This year I have  THIS diary and it's full of beautiful seasonal inspiration

The lovely circular celebration of early spring flowers inspired me to crochet a mandala using an adaptation of THIS pattern.......

I've also been inspired by Lucy to make some yarn pegs. Such a lot of fun, and brilliant for project planning.......

Clockwise from 12 o'clock the Stylecraft Special DK colours are White, Saffron, Meadow, Lemon, Pale Rose, Magenta, Pistachio ( not spring green as it says on the peg...ooops) Cloud blue, and Duck Egg .....

And here's what they look like made into random solid three round granny squares...woo hoo. I love this shot.......

Can you see the Snowdrops and the Crocuses and the Daffodils? I can......

Spring is my most favourite and best time of year ( as Lola would put it :0)  )

As you can probably see I used my usual Join-as-you-go method to construct the blanket.

I was making a baby blanket with the squares, not for any particular baby but just because I love making them and they are such pretty colours don't you think.......

With a baby blanket you get all joy of blanket making in a short time. There's no time to get bored or distracted. Perfect for me.

I'm really happy with how the border turned out too. I did my usual thing of choosing a quiet colour ( Duck Egg in this case) to work the first round using THIS method. And then worked six more rounds of clusters followed by a round of single ( U.S. term) crochet and a round of picot stitches.....

Here's the complete blanket and I'm happy to report it has already found a new home ( bought by a friends daughter as a new baby gift)

Good bye First flowers blanket...you were such a joy to make. I hope your make a mum smile and keep a baby lovely and cosy.

I recently finished a Easter inspired blanket, just need to unload the photos. Gorgeous shot with the daffodils (ours are already gone here). Happy spring!

  17. Gorgeous blanket and such a lovely gift for a new baby. I like to give blankets because they're not outgrown in three months' time like clothes - they last and last. No doubt yours will be very treasured - a lovely thought. CJ xx

  27. Hi Jacquie ~ I am looking for a new camera. The Amazon reviews for yours say uploading pics has been complicated. Have you found that?

    1. Hi Lynn, well I dropped mine and now have to put the sd card into a separate camera to get the photos uploaded. That's my fault though. I'm very hard on cameras and they never seem to last long. I think people want wifi uploading these days ....I don't have experience with that.
I'm looking for a new camera with a better zoom but still pocket sized. Let me know how you get on.

  28. Hello!! Wow, it's been an age. Happy to come and find you today and read all about your beautiful crochet blanket. You have such an eye for colours. I too was inspired to make some yarn pegs - it's quite tricky writing on the peg, isn't it?! Well, I found it to be anyway! Probably cos mine had ridges on them (sent The Bert to buy and he didn't know what they were for). As I've only made a couple so far, I think the OCD in me will buy some new pegs and start again :)
Lots to catch up on since I was last here - need to get mine going again soon, I find it so hard to find the time and my camera has been broken so I've not been taking many pics. Need to drop some hints for a new one for my birthday ;)
    Hope you are well,
    Jones x

  30. How did I miss this!!! Your blanket is beautiful and well received I hope. We are avid NT goers but I have never been to Belton house. Big Sis has been to over 30 different properties and she is only 8. It looks a real treasure. Jo x
