Crochet Mug Cosy

Hello Lovelies,
have you seen the lovely crocheted mug cozies popping up all over blog land ? Penelope's gorgeous version ,towards the bottom of this post really caught my eye and I loved her idea of giving them as teacher gifts.
All the cozies I'd  seen wrapped around the sides of your mug and fastened with a button, like Penelope's. Then last week I saw this inspired idea....a crochet coaster and mug cosy in one......brilliant !!

There is a link to the pattern but I just started mine using the first couple of rounds of this rather lovely simple coaster pattern ....when it was as wide as the base of my mug I  stopped increasing made stripes in U.S. half double crochet ............

Here's a peek at the bottom....

I've now made two of these to cover inexpensive mugs I picked up at the supermarket, using Patons Smoothie yarn, here's the second....

Having the integral coaster means the button fastening has to be at the top, but I've made sure it's at the side away from your thumb so it's not annoying. I LOVE how these turned out, all those colourful stripes make me smile......

I've also copied Penelope's idea to fill them with chocolates and I'm hoping the excellent  teachers they were made for will like them ( I suppose they would make a pretty desk tidy if they did not want to drink out of a mug with added yarn ! ) ........

One last photo , a close up of this sweet button, I may have to go back and buy a couple more of these ....aren't they pretty ...........

On a different subject ,the weather has turned COLD around here at last . We haven't had the snow that some  of the U.K. has seen but here is a yarny version I spotted when I went to buy those buttons....

I love this seasonal crafty window , especially the cute crochet snowman.........

Lastly here is a picture of the sunrise I noticed when I arrived at work at 8am this morning....

Simply stunning.

Hope your week goes well , they are whizzing past at a rate of knots around here ! My November nature notes post will appear sometime this week !!

  2. Hey Jacquie, great cosies, I'm sure the teachers will enjoy the chokkies and then appreciate the mug and cosy.........great idea with the 'coaster' bottom.

Love the 'yarny' snow....they almost look like dishmops!!

Gorgeous little green, floral, button, it has a very vintagey look to it.

Beautiful pic of the sunrise, a lovely time of the day, but I don't often see it unless I am working an 'early'.

Blue skies and sunshine as far as the eye can see here today. A little breezy but beautiful.......

Sending you sunny wishes from Oz,

    Claire :}

  7. How funny, I've just finished 2 of these to send back to the UK as Christmas presents! I always thought they were a bit daft until I burnt my hand recently - must make one for myself! Must post some pics at some point...

  10. I have also made these! Very nice. I made it for our stainless steel camping mugs, with 100% wool. Wil just have to unravel and do it again, as it is a bit loose. But that can wait for January.
Good idea for a teacher's gift.

  23. Oh Jacquie woweee, I think this is a lovely gift! I know what you mean about the sudden surge of mug cosies, I think Mollie Makes did a feature on them as well this month, might have spurred on the drive to knit and crochet them!

I love the colours you chose :) I guess another idea would be to pop in a hot choc sachet and a couple of marshmallows... mmm choccie.

  24. Adorable! Just recently, the bank gave me a coffee mug for Customer Appreciation Day; and while I hate to be unappreciative, I think a mug cozy would be perfect! I think I may make myself one up tonight! Thanks for the inspiration, and hope you're enjoying the holidays! ~tina

The mug cosies are a great idea for teacher gifts but between them my children have 5 teachers/teaching assistants so they'll be getting something a bit more simple this year! x
