A January Drawing

Hello Lovelies.

the idea for my latest drawing started with some indoor bulbs.....Hyacinths to be exact.

I'm sure many of you know of the pleasure these little pots of Spring bring me at this time of year.

My own Hyacinths sit on my kitchen windowsill, so I decided to work with this . In my initial sketch you can just about make out a rather large bowl of them.............

I made up a more interesting view than the one I actually have.

This is my final drawing, outlined with a fine pen before colouring. The bowl of Hyacinths has shrunk as they did seem massive in my sketch.

This is an imagination drawing. None of this actually exists except in my minds eye. It's a fun creative process adding details as they pop into my head.

The colouring can be a bit tricky, with no reference there are so many decisions I have to make as the drawing progresses. All the colours and where the shading should go need to be chosen as I go along. It's a slow process and this drawing was worked on over several days.

I went with red gingham curtains in the end..........

then I had an idea to copy the sky in my favourite Christmas card. I just love the night sky with some remaining daylight on the horizon. I added the moon by drawing round a button to get a perfect circle ..........

I included some pink in my sky as I love to see this phenomenon..........

My initial idea was to do a square drawing of just the windowsill and the wintry view through  the window, like this...........

But , having a rectangular page, I decided to add some more indoor detail below the window.........

A cosy chair to sit with your favourite pet and work with some soft yarn in the glow of a lamp is my idea of a perfect January day.

Of course I also need to get outdoors for a while, to  fill my lungs with fresh air and clear my head. In my drawing I've included a lady walking her dog......

So here is my finished January drawing. I'm sorry the photo of it isn't the best. It was a bit dark here by the time I had chance to take the pictures, but I couldn't wait to share it with you lovelies.

 I am super pleased with how it turned out . It's got many lovely things that make  winter more pleasant, like....

♥  feeding the birds
♥ getting wrapped up and having a walk in crunchy fresh snow
♥ coming home and  looking at a beautiful snowy scene from inside a warm house
♥ smelling the beautiful scent of Hyacinths
♥ enjoying a hot drink and a bit of cosy hooky time

 This drawing makes me smile, I hope it makes you smile too.
