Hello Lovelies,
today I have a finished crochet project to share with you, I hope you like it.
Back in November , in need of a portable project , I started a crochet scarf using yarn from my modest stash of luxury yarn. It's made up of various brands of cashmere and merino blends that I've picked up over quite a few months........
I had ten shades to play with and decided to make little, two round granny squares. These were joined as they were constructed using THIS great method...........
As I had just completed THIS blanket using the same technique it was nice and easy.
This was such a lovely colourful project for a time of year when there is not much light or colour outside.
Ideally one or two more shades of blue and green would have been nice to add to the mix, but this is what I had and I think it works pretty well.
These days I'm very good and always sew in my ends as I go. I also kept draping my growing scarf around my neck to see how it looked. When it reached fifteen rows I had an idea.
My small squares scarf has morphed into a small squares cowl :0)
Because I was using the join as you go method creating a tube was super easy. On the last row I simply joined the squares to both ends and hey presto.
I also added a simple, one row, border of granny clusters to both sides to finish it off.........
As you can see from my smiling face, I'm rather thrilled with my first completed project of 2014
Happy, happy, happy
This way I have home made goodness to keep me warm and plenty of yummy yarn to save for another project.
Right, I'm off to carry on with another WIP .

ReplyDeleteNice one Jacquie! Always good to get something finished.
ReplyDeleteI've nearly completed a jumper for a fairy penguin. I just have to sew it up - the bit I hate. :)
What a fantastic cowl! I'm not sure I've ever come across a granny square cowl before - it's super! Don't you love how projects morph as you work on them? The colours, the design, a wonderful way to kick off the new year! Please consider sharing this on my CAL post? Chrissie x

ReplyDeleteQué belleza!!!! cuánto color! me encanta!
ReplyDeleteOoh this is beautiful! I have just begun making little 2-round granny squares with any leftover bits of yarn. I hadn't decided whether to make it into a scarf or a doll blanket. I hadn't even considered a cowl! Thanks for the inspiration xx
ReplyDeleteIt's so gorgeous! What a good way to use a variety of expensive yarn. I bet that cashmere and merino feels lovely against the skin, and you've balanced the shades and colours beautifully. Lovely, no wonder it makes you happy! x
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful colours!
ReplyDeleteThis is the most beautiful scarf, even though in Sydney Australia it is currently summer and around 30 degrees daily, I would love to do one for winter. Just a quick question, are the squares 3 rounds? Thank you in advance
ReplyDeleteClair
Hi Clair , thanks for your comment.
DeleteThey are two round granny squares worked in double knitting yarn with a 4.0mm hook
hope this helps

it's gorgeous and you've got great skin! enjoy wearing it, Heather x
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely cowl. Warm colors for cold winter time :) Love your blog btw!
ReplyDeleteAh, that's fantastic! You've inspired me. :)
ReplyDeleteHi, I love this cowl and have purchased my yarn today to start it. I have the pattern from Simply Crochet Edits. Just a couple of questions. *grin* Above you mention the join as you go method, but don't describe or show any photos of it. I want to make sure I'm doing correctly. I'm knew to crocheting. Also, am I understanding correctly that on the second round there is NO chain 2 between the trebles on the "straight" side? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHi again, The THIS link now works. It didn't work before. Maybe because I'm now signed in to my Google account it works. So I'll look at the link now. *grin*
