A Misty Start

Hello Lovelies,
I'm currently enjoying a week off work and spending a majority of the hours in my garden. My walking total for April is rubbish at the moment, but while I have the energy and enthusiasm to tackle the garden I feel I need to keep at it.
On Wednesday moring I work up with hubby's alarm (6am) and got up with him. It was clear and sunny. When he left for work we noticed a mist had rolled in. Ooooh, time for a walk :0)

Eldest was stirring so I told him I'd be gone for an hour and quickly got dressed. This was the scene at 7.30 am.........

I  love to be out early. At a time I would normally be going to work or getting the boys organised for their day. I could here the distant hum of the rush hour as I walked along the path, but at the same time I felt enclosed in my own little world..........

Hello walking boots, I'm sorry you have been a bit neglected lately.......

It was that sot of light mist, where the sun can still filter through. The wet grass sparkled with millions of dewdrops.......

And the colours of the damp dead nettle shone out..........

So pretty.

I could just see blue sky as I walked the  footpath by the railway line......

Can you see the train tracks on the left?   It's just a field and a wire fence and few shrubby trees....but gosh it looked lovely that morning.........

The embankment was washed in a gentle golden glow.........

And so many rabbits were out nibbling the crops. You might just be able to make out the white fluffy tail of one as he hurried out of sight into the bushes..........

He scampered off down there somewhere....into his burrow to sleep..........

I've taken so many photo of this hog weed skeleton over the winter, while there was precious else to catch the eye...........

In the little woodland this beautiful web made me stop and smile.........

Such delicate beauty normally hidden from our eyes, now glistening with dewdrops and showing off it's creators skill and patience.........

The twisted old branches of the Hawthorn trees always catch my eye.........

But on Wednesday the light was the thing that delighted........

I climbed the steps........

and walked the zig zag path..........

smiled at the new leaves unfurling.........

and thought the place looked quite magical........

A place where fairies might live.......

Back out in the real world I walked beside this row of beautiful trees.......

And climbed the first stile of the day..........

The hazy sunlight reflected off the field pond........

and the new green leaves of this young Oak sapling shone out.......

Can you see it here, standing proudly with it's parent.......

Who's leaves are still in their buds.......

Small objects in the grass caught my eye. Like this pretty feather.........

and a scrap of wool from the sheep who live in this field..........

There they are in the distance........

Let me zoom in so you can see them and their sweet lambs, enjoying breakfast by the looks of things.......

I climbed another stile........

and another, entwined with Ivy.......

I'm not sure which tree these buds belong to, but their velvety pinkness was delightful........

Through the kissing gate........

and I'm in the churchyard.......

I sit in the porch for a minute or two.........

And gaze at the daffodils among the gravestones......

There are clumps of wild primroses too........

all glistening with dewdrops and creamy perfection.....

All the way along my walk I've been seeing birds and listening to their songs, here I finally manage to capture a photo of one.......

The track to the church is still shrouded in mist........

and the bird silhouettes are easy to pick out..........

It's the out of the way setting of this church that makes it extra special I think.......

Along the roadside Euphorbias and daffodils add pops of colour......

Then it's through the tunnel........

and the last few stiles......

Here the Blackthorn blossom catches my eye. Such a beautiful flower........

There will be Sloes here in autumn.

And close to home I spot the first cow parsley in flower......

As I reached home I smiled at the blackbird in our neighbours garden. It was such a special walk and it seems the early bird really does get the worm.........

Than you for joining me.

  4. Thank you for the lovely photos of your early morning walk. I have to confess that I'm not an early morning person - more of an owl than a lark - but I can see how much I'm missing.

  12. What a wonderful walk, such gorgeous early misty light. I love the sloe blossom and the dead nettle. Flowers are so special at this time of year aren't they. The huge tree buds are delightful too. I don't know what they are either, but they're certainly a good size. I'm wishing you a good weekend. CJ xx

  13. Lovely, just lovely. I am enthralled by your misty walk today but my favorite photo is the spider web. I don't care for spiders, but that web is a thing of beauty. Thank you.
    Blessings,

  14. I really enjoyed this walk with you Jacquie. There is something so special about walking early in the morning as everything wakes up. What makes it more satisfying is knowing that you don't have to go to work and can take as long as you like. The spiders web shows the beauty of the overnight work with the jewels of dew giving a fantastic display. Thanks for letting us come along with you xx

  15. Oh Jacquie, that was absolutely DELIGHTFUL......thankyou. I was right there a couple of steps behind you. I can just picture it all, so wonderful.
Having visited England in December and April over the years, I can tell you foggy days, seem quite different from here in Oz. The light is different and creates a unique atmosphere and I just love it. It's hazy/foggy here, but only because they are doing burn offs in the bush and it's just smokey. Not particularly nice, but it does give us some rather spectacular sunrise and sunsets......Hope you enjoyed your week off. From Oz.....XxXx

  17. The tree bud looks like a magnolia tree, they are just coming out here in the Midlands so maybe they are a touch later up north. A magical walk, I am jealous that you can get out at that time of the day. Jo x

  18. Indeed a magical walk! I love to walk when it's misty, foggy out. The spider web was beautiful like a bit of fine thread yarn bombing. lol The daffodils are all but gone here, but the snowball bushes are starting to bloom along with the columbines. Have a great day!xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  20. Hi Jacquie, I'm pretty new to your blog and absolutely love your work! I've noticed a couple of people asking permission to sell items made from your patterns and was wondering whether it would be OK if I did too providing I add a link to your blog on any tags/online postings? Totally fine if you'd rather not :)
