A Little Dress Makeover

Hello again Lovelies , two posts in as many days !
Today I had some unexpected crafty time due to the youngest Master BM having a nasty bug.
Unable to go to work , I've been keeping him supplied with drinks and cuddles and sewing my little row of squares onto my knitted dress......

I got this dress off the sale rail at a local charity shop just before Christmas . I've worn it a couple of times . It's so comfortable worn with leggings and like the way it looks on . The only problem with it was it had a rather annoying curly hem ( probably why it ended up in the charity shop in the first place).....

So , remembering a lovely crochet skirt I saw on the drops site ages ago , I thought I would try adding some crochet embellishment .........
I can't say I've enjoyed working in such drab colours , I certainly couldn't have faced it in January. But now the days are getting lighter I gave it a go . I do like wearing black sometimes as it is very flattering .........

I made sure their was a light colour in the squares to "lift" it a bit ...

Here's a close up taken by master BM.......

I'm pretty pleased with the results , the A.line this crochet has created is more flattering .
I'll be glad to get back to some colourful Granny squares now though. Do let me know if you try the granny square tutorial link in  my previous post, I'd love to here how you got on :0)

P.S . the square I used in this project is Lucy's lovely summer garden granny square ...a favourite of mine, you possibly can see it's also used on the throw over my chair .

  4. What a fab idea..it looks GREAT!

I have been itching to make a crochet garment. I have my eye on a pattern but am not brave enough to attempt it yet! A bit more practice first!

Have a super rest of a day!

  5. This is such a cute way to embellish a dress. You did a fantastic job. Just that little addition to the dress gives it a whole new cuter look. The colors are great for that dress, but I too like the brighter colors like the one draped in the background.

  9. That looks great well done. Yes I have tried the granny square tutorial and actually managed to make something that looked vaguely like a square(I was supposed to be finishing the decorating). I'm going to spend the rest of the evening practising. Thanks for inspiring me.

  16. Oh Jacquie, what a wonderful little makeover.

I was a little worried about the end result, but needn't have been, it looks brilliant on and very striking.

I'm sure you'll get loads of comments when you wear it out.

Hope Master BM is feeling tip top ASAP.

  17. I love the way your dress looks with the granny squares on it! What a great idea to spice up a dress... And the funny thing is.. I was searching through the drops site myself today and when I saw that skirt pattern with granny's at the bottom, my heart jumped and now I find it again at your blog!

  25. I loved the idea. If the dress had those crochet squares before you wouldn't find it on the rail for sale! Well done!

  27. Oh wow, bring back granny square fashion! It looks really good Jacquie, I'm sure you will get lots of compliments when you wear it. I'm at home with Alice again today full of bugs and cold! It's quite nice as we can snuggle together and be crafy when she has the energy. It also gives me a little more hooky time when she has a little shut eye xox
