My Welsh Dresser

 Hello Lovelies ,
well , the welsh dresser I was lucky enough to pick up for a bargain price arrived on Monday. And I'm totally thrilled .
This week I've had so much fun playing around with it ........here's what it looked like on arrival. It's  Antique Pine..............

I LOVE that all the stuff that was previously on display is now tucked away in it's drawers and cupboards........

I may paint it in a while.....I'd like to think it could look a little bit like this one , notice the price ? but then again I may leave it as it is.

But for now I'm happy to live with the pine. It's such an improvement on what was there before and I'm really enjoying arranging and rearranging things I already had on it's shelves.
Want to see ?

Here's how it looks today ,

Ready ?

Ta- dah.........

It's been constantly evolving all week as I've tried different things , it's largely thrifted , handmade or sentimental stuff I've had for many years ( and a bit of crochet, naturally ) . It's a real treat to have somewhere like this to arrange it all..........

The only thing I have bought new for my dresser are these cute flower lights. It's in a dark spot so I wanted to add some light , as there are no power sockets on this wall these battery lights , with their warm glow are ideal..........

I've also made more mini bunting from some pretty CK papers I had ( like the plant bunting I made earlier this year............

If you read my blog regularly lots of this stuff will be familiar, but I hope you don't think It's a bit strange dedicating a whole post to a second hand piece of furniture . Mr BM does , he's just said as much.

I'm ignoring him though . Thank you for sharing your dresser I love in your comments on this post.
I'm sure this display will continue to evolve over the months and years so I think  it's nice to capture it as it is now .

Hope you have a relaxing weekend
Jacquie x

  1. I love your new pine dresser. I actually think I prefer it in its natural wood state as it is, but I know that a lot of people prefer them painted. Both can be lovely in a different way. What a marvellous place to put all your bits and bobs. It gives such a homely feeling! Have a good weekend!

  6. Most men just don't get it! The dresser absolutely deserves a post of its own... my husband questioned why our bed "was on the internet". "Because it looks fabulous" I replied. Simple, and the same goes for your dresser x

  9. Very lovely - though to tidy at the moment ;) Its like one of mine except mines only 2 doors - it actually looks like the ones MrVV used to make & sell in a previous job - be funny if it was!!

I keep wanting to paint mine but then again the battered look is rather appealing!

  10. I love it. It is very similar to mine. Would be such a shame to paint it though. I love the natural wood.

  11. Ooh, I'm getting pleasure from your pleasure - dedicating a post to it isn't strange in the slightest! You've already got it looking so pretty - I bet you're enjoying every minute! My dresser is also in a shadowy spot with no nearby power sockets so I think I may follow suit and buy some battery fairy lights too.

  20. What a lovely dresser, I think you are right to hold off from painting it as it looks in great condition. The flower lights are a great idea, I think I might copy, may I ask where you got them, as I do not have an electric socket near my dresser.

  22. It looks great and it is functional..... we have one in our garage that I would LOVE to bring into the dining room to replace some seriously gloomy furniture that has been in there since before I came on the scene. You have INSPIRED me to broach the subject with Hubby.......and as for your OH. Just smile at him! He is after all, male!!

  23. That is one beautiful dresser and very lovingly decorated. You are right : he's a bloke, he won't get it, yet I'm sure if he is anything like my other half, he can blather on for hours about sparkplugs and stuff.
Anyway, back to dressers and storage furniture : I love places to squirrel stuff away. My problem with the put away thing is I often forget that I've done it and can't find what it is I put away.
The rules say that a few days after you've replaced put away item is the time when you are going to open the door to the cupboard and find said item. Now you have two! :)

  26. Your home and your desire for more light aside (as well as the fact that I can understand wanting the piece white....I think as its an old piece it may be a mistake to paint it......
That said it looks great!!!! I love the way you've arranged the shelves and adding those flower lights was a stroke of genius!!!!

  28. Tut tut tut Mr B! What do he know! I love your dresser so much I have dresser envy. I have one...a second hand one...we have to wedge the door closed with cardboard. It is smaller than yours and now I need a new one and you to come and tittify it for me! xxx

  29. yes ignore him - what does Mr BM know about it?!! It's looking great and it is such an improvement on what was there before, I can see why you are so pleased with it.

  33. What a bargain!! I don't think it's strange at all - it's partly what blogging is for isn't it? Sharing a bit of decoration, a bit of creativity with people that are fairly like minded!! Well done - I'm loving your style! J9 x

  34. Nothing wrong with a post dedicated to piece of second hand furniture, especially when it is a bargain.

  35. I can feel your excitement. I'd be that way too, especially organizing it.
It's really nice. I do like the painted version leaving the main shelf in wood, but pine is fine too. I've always loved Welsh dressers my whole life.
Previously loved furniture has it's advantages in that it has a history. I wonder what was once on the dresser displayed by the lady of the house.
Your display is lovely and am sure over time and many times it will evolve into something different. This is a true treasure to have, and blog about it all you want. After all its us ladies that enjoy dresser stories. Smile.

PS - I never know what to 'comment as' maybe you can tell me. Not even sure if you get my comments.I'll try Open ID and see what happens. Nope, that didn't work. I'll try Google.

  39. Oh Jacquie it's gorgeous!
I'm sure you'll have great fun changing pretty bits and pieces around!
It's very similar to my dresser which we bought from a chap who handmade it 14 years ago for about £500, so you really did bag yourself a bargain!
The cream one is gorgeous too, I really want to paint ours, but the hubster would rather keep it pine.I just think my little treasures would look better against a cream background.
Love the pretty fairy lights, I've ordered some for decorating my plate rack.

  48. That looks amazing, I want one now. I have this huge wall in my dining room that is just waiting for me to find the perfect piece of furniture for it, and this post makes me think that a welsh dresser would do quite nicely. This post is lovely, even if some people think it is strange to blog about furniture you should just own it!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I adore that dresser, I dream of owning one when I own my own house!

Be happy with it for the time being (there is so much to do before Christmas, you probably don't want to be painting it anyway.)

In the new year gloom (from which we all suffer) maybe you will feel inspired to give it a lick of paint and some gorgeous new door handles!

  50. Love it, I am a little mad at myself for giving mine away, wasn't as nice as yours tho. I now want one again. Love all your bits too.
