over the past week or so I've been busy drawing in my sketchbook some more.
Again my inspiration has come from the countryside and villages around these parts.
I took this picture last week.......
I love this tiny village hall that I sometimes drive past. The Sunshine was nice but I wished there were more signs of Spring. Never mind , I could add those, couldn't I?
Once again started sketching out a picture.
Here is a progress shot......taken at the scary bit when you have to commit yourself.....the coloured pencils don't rub out much, and I do lots of rubbing out at the moment :0)...........
What can I say about this picture.........mostly that I know it's not perfect, but again I LOVED doing it.
Here is the finished drawing........
I loved thinking of ways to add colour and make it spring like. I really went to town with that . It was great fun imagining what it would look like on a sunny April day, with a Spring Fayre ( or fair, it was difficult to decide which spelling to go for ) in full swing.
Of course there had to be window boxes of multicoloured Tulips..........
A banner, and most essentially Bunting......GOT to have Bunting .....
Then I decided to add an inquisitive cat , looking up at the bird...........
I loved noticing the details of this pretty building and attempting to capture them, but yet having the freedom to change what ever I liked.
I loved how the picture just sort of evolved in the way creative projects do.
But mostly I just enjoyed drawing it. I know my pictures are not as good as my crochet, but this drawing still makes me happy...........
Roll on Spring !

Hello Jacquie
ReplyDeleteIts lovely certainly much much better than ever I could do....I just stick to pin men and one dimension objects. I very much like the way your drawing progressed how the happy spring things appeared in it. If drawing makes you happy definitely go for it as being happy is tops!
keep well
Amanda :-)
so nice!!!

Hi,Jacquie!
ReplyDeleteThis drawing looks so cheerful. I liked how you made the houses. I anyways like English architecture, it looks cozy to me.(you are from UK, right?). Just correct me if I didn't get you place of living.
Have a fab weekend!
Anna
I love it.
ReplyDeleteI can see this done in fabric and embroidery and little tiny crochet bunting, it is gorgeous Jacquie.

ReplyDeleteAm loving your drawings - that one is very pretty - can just see that for real on a sunny, spring day :)
ReplyDeleteBtw - looks springlike outside today - big yellow ball in the blue sky!!! Perhaps I'm dreaming!!
Amazing, Jacquie, I love your drawing! You have turned an ordinary picture of an ordinary village hall into a happy, cheerful spring event. I love all the details you have added, the bunting with one flag flapping in the gentle breeze.... aah, I could almost be there!
ReplyDeleteAngie x
Just perfect on a rainy day!
ReplyDeleteOh Jacquie, you've made a bleak, dark scene look so animated and welcoming ... well done!
ReplyDeleteLove Claire xx
Jacquie, your picture and your drawing is WONDERFUL!!! I'd frame it! You make me want to get out my colored pencils and get busy drawing~! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the drawing, gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteit's really lovely! i love your spring version, very happy. I'd like to go! Heather x
ReplyDeleteThe little hall was lovely anyway but you definitely brought it to life. Very Miss Marple countrystyle. xx
ReplyDeleteThe drawing is great! Artistic license is a fabulous thing…making flowers bloom where previously there were none and generally making the world a more cheerful place.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun you're having with your coloured pencils and doing jolly well too! I love your little birds too and that tabby cat has real personality! Well done!
ReplyDeleteHello Jacquie
ReplyDeleteWow you drawing is fabulous, you must be so proud. I love how you have brought the photo to life by adding your little touches.

I love the small details you include ... do you know I think birds are going to be you little thing on the pictures ... rather than where's wally its going to be spot the birdie!! LOVE IT! x
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that the front doors are open...really welcomes you in:-)
ReplyDeleteThe transformation from the photo to the drawing is just lovely! Welcoming colours and fun, you can just imagine all the stalls and games inside the hall. oh and I spotted the birdy straight away, too cute!
ReplyDeleteWill your mum and son be doing their take on the photo too?!

Amazing what a touch of bright spring themed additions does. Ah I can envisage lots of fun things going on in in the hall. Tombola, cake stalls all to raise funds for the local village school or church :)
ReplyDeleteYour drawing is wonderful! It actually cries "spring!" :)
ReplyDeleteThere are several parts of the picture that I particulalrly like - the roof and the window there in the left part of the house, the flags, the cat.
I think it's amazing how you mastered colour pencils. When I try to draw with them, my drawings always come out as if done by a 5 year old.
Congrats. I would frame it.
I love your drawing! I sure hope Mother Nature is listening because I am so ready for spring.
ReplyDeleteI adore this picture.
ReplyDeletebravo !! super joli, digne d'un grand peintre ! et la signature ?

Beautiful! You're really very talented. I love all the little details, especially the bird and the cat.
ReplyDeleteThis picture looks soooooooo sweet!
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely - and I especially like the cat! x
ReplyDeleteGood for you persevering with your drawing. Its not something I would tackle. Love how you've brightened up your scene and put on your own interpretation, x
ReplyDeleteI love your drawing and your story as you told it with each picture. In fact I have found it inspiring and think I will do something for Autumn here. I am so tired of long hot days, parched grass, dry dry garden, plants trying so hard to survive. Maybe I will feel as though Autumn will be here soon. Thankyou for your story drawing and for giving me an idea. Love Mrs A
ReplyDeleteI love how you've added things to make it more Spring like, and the open doors with glimpses inside.
ReplyDeleteI really like your drawing, it's just lovely.

That is truly lovely. I think it's great that you're nurturing your drawing talents. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely drawing. I think they cute little kitty sets the whole thing off :)
ReplyDeleteIt's the little details you include that I enjoy so much. It brings out the child in me. Ever thought of children's book illustrations. I think you have the nack knack(spelling) for it. I like the way you take pics of the smaller details like the bird and the cat. I feel like I'm right there with them. I bet the village hall people would love a scanned copy of your drawing.
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog. What amazing talent you have!
ReplyDeleteWonderful .....it would be a CRIME not to work this beautiful picture with textured fabric appliques and embroidery stitches. If anyone is feeling uninspired, take a look at this persons work and look out of a window - draw what you see, develop the drawing anyway you like - more colour, less colour, leave bits out, put bits in, whatever you like and work it! Love this blog!!!!!!!!!!!1
ReplyDeleteI is soooo cute! I love it! Sometimes a dabble into another arty form is great! x
ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous drawing....you're so lucky to have such talent! Reminds me of the village schoolhouse in the Miss Read and Thrush Green books!!! xxx
ReplyDeletehey you have made a giant step to getting stuff down on paper and it is great. Why not try watercolour pencils? They are a bit more forgiving and can do the blending you are talking about without having to do the whole scary watercolour thing. I use them and you can add detail but wash over parts that you are not so sure about. keep drawing you have made a fantastic start....
ReplyDeleteThat is such a cheery and happy drawing Jacquie. I was very excited when i noticed a crocus or 2 yesterday and a couple of sweet red breasted robins bobbing about looking for food. Yes, lets pack the winter up and bring on the Spring! x Have a lovely weekend x Penelope
ReplyDeleteI love that drawing. You do have talent! Your cat is also very cute.
ReplyDeleteSpring will be around before you know it. You've recently had lovely crisp mornings with a bit of ice and snow on things, down here it's been fires in the south and flooding rains in the north.
I think if I was to attempt to draw it, my tan pencil would be a stub, it is so brown here in southern Australia at the moment. We want some autumnal rain and we want it now.
Have a great week.
I defy anyone to look at this drawing without smiling! The expressions on the faces of the bird and the cat are wonderful, and details like the bit of bunting blowing upside down add character! The fact that you have enjoyed creating this really shines through - well done x Jane
ReplyDeleteHow pretty :) love all your Spring touches too really brings life to the wee hall
ReplyDeleteAll things nice...
How did I miss this post?? Fabulous picture, I love it!! :) xxx
ReplyDeleteI love this - so cheerful! Thank you so much for sharing - I particularly love the ginger kitty!
ReplyDeleteLovely! The bunting and tulips are so sweet - so many tiny details hidden away in your picture. If you love to draw, then you should draw as much and as often as you like.
ReplyDeleteGillian x
Check out here for a sample (not great actually but take a peek) of watercolour pencils. I use them when I do house portraits for people. This one lacks depth a bit and needs more work but it was just a quick sketch. Would love to see more of your drawings.

Jacquie, i just love this drawing.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me want to live in a village with a hall just like this where they hold fayr's/fairs...
Bunting, Cherry blossom, Tulips such a happy picture......don't stop drawing.
I'm sure we'd all love to see more.
