Piles of Smiles

Hello Lovelies , hope you've had a good week . I'm so pleased to be able to say I haven't been tempted to stray from my blanket making . I thought the day would never come .....so many little projects so far this year. But I did say this blanket was not a quick one and I did love looking at my little  grannies , they are so cute don't you think?.....

This picture was taken on Monday when I decided to have a bit of a photo shoot for the little squares that were yet to get their plum border . It was great fun scattering them in the lawn......

Aren't they pretty close up .....

They look great scattered randomly...what about a little arranging...

It's not a pair of glasses..... as my youngest thought when he saw this picture :0)

It's the initials of my blog !! .....

I expect the neighbours think I'm completely bonkers if they saw me standing on a chair photographing crochet on my lawn , but hopefully they weren't looking :0)
I even like  all the pretty ends .....

As the week has gone on gradually all of these little fellas has gained a plum edge . I've got quick at this round ...it takes me four and a half minutes to complete one . But then there's the new plum ends. Here's what they looked like at 1pm today .........

Sorry about the fuzzy picture , it was dark and rainy...perfect crochet weather .
It took just over two hours to sew all these ends in securely . I've taken some photos of my method and I'll do a tutorial soon.
This is what they looked like after.....

Ahhh that's better . I've just got to sew them together now .

Did you notice July's Country Living at the top of this post ?I'm fortunate enough to have a subscription ..last years birthday prezzie . Here's a closer look at the cover isn't it lovely....just needs some crochet to be perfect don't you think......

As it says on the cover , here's to some long lazy days this weekend

  2. Hmmm, Jacquie, all those squares are indeed piles of smiles! What a cute title! Love those colors! I'm giggling about you standing on a chair to photograph your crochet! We creative types just have to do what we have to do! If the neighbors don't understand....ohhhhhh welllllll! They shouldn't be looking! LOL Have a great weekend. And, by the way...I made one of these cute little grannies when you first showed the pattern. I happened upon it yesterday and smiled at it, thinking that I needed to make some more! You're so right...it IS a cute pattern!!!!! x&o, Annette

  3. Oh good, someone else who appreciates ends! I save all the ends when weaving in just as a little snapshot of the whole project. Very pretty colours, it's going to be a lovely blanket. So lovely to have stumbled across your blog.

  4. That vibrant colour just finishes those blocks off perfectly .... I have seen some bloggers are leaving the wool ends out for the birds ... can I please discourage this as it causes problems with choking of the baby birds in the nest and gets tangled around their little legs. You have inspired me to start on a granny blanket ... thank you x

  7. Now normally I'd just think very pretty BUT I've just learnt to crochet in the last few days. At the moment I can only dream of a pile of pretties like yours but very soon (well this year perhaps) I might be able to do my own show & tell :)

  9. Loving the colours in your blanket. Good to see others using stylecraft dk. Im using it to knit a cardi and was a bit worried as its very cheap but the quality is surprising good and im very pleased with the feel and texture. Not at all scratchy or sqeaky. Have a lovely weekend. Melanie x

  11. Can't wait to see the finished blanket - those squares look edibly gorgeous! Glad I'm not the only one to keep the ends in a pile - there's something very satisfying about it, isn't there?
The 'bold, bright and beautiful' article in this month's CL is totally, totally inspiring - I actually felt excited reading it, there are so many ideas!
    Have a good weekend

  14. I'm glad you also time yourself. I do too, can't help it, I like to have an idea of how long it will take to complete and give myself time challenges. I also like to weigh the amounts of wool to work out if I have enough etc! I like stats!

Also v envious of your lawn, ours is a mix of dead grass and thriving weeds, very uncomfortable bare-foot! Libby x

  18. Glad you got your wool, I love that magazine too, very inspirational. my friend who sometime gives me her copy suggested I frame one of my crochet pieces as framed textiles look so good, I just remembered that when I saw your comment on the cover of the magazine and the need for crochet, perhaps a framed piece of crochet on the table next to the phone, or some crochet doilies, or a crochet rug .... I feel the urge to crochet, thanks jacquie

  21. Lovely grannies. If kids love diving in to plastic balls at IKEA I would love to dive in to a hole pile of grannies just like that. That would be a happy dive wouldn't it?

Envious you got your Country Living Mag. I haven't received mine yet. But I live in Switzerland so I guess I have to wait a bit longer. Have a wonderful weekend.

  22. Oooh your squares are looking fab. I'm really getting the urge to make a granny square blanket now. But I have to finish the pokey dot throw I'm making for my daughter first.

I love the idea of a plum border. So different from the usual white ones you see. Can't wait for the final ta-dah.

    Have a fab weekend :)

  28. I hoard my ends too! Mainly because they end up all over the house if I don't put them securely in thir tub. I'm too lazy to empty the tub regularly!

I'd love to see how you sew your ends in. Mine tend to come undone :SS
