Square Crochet

Hello Lovelies,
literally within minutes of finishing my Kaleidoscope blanket I was off to my Stylecraft stash with my hook. I am officially a crochet addict :0)

Towards the end of a project I always start planning the next in my head. I was yearning for some granny square simpleness.

The lovely Heather at Little Tin Bird  had treated me to a sneak peek of her latest secret project a couple of weeks ago and I loved it ,a LOT ! Heather has finished her baby blanket now...... take a look at it here. Isn't it wonderful . I love the small blocks of colour .Heathers choice of colours is just gorgeous and even better , since it's also made from Stylecraft ,I had a similar selection already.

So that was my main inspiration for my latest project. I've been making these squares for just over a  week now .They are so quick and relaxing to make . I recon I'm about half way to the number needed for my latest  baby blanket.......

I love the look of the squares piled up on my ripple baby blanket ,made back in November last year.
As you can see I've made my squares with a white centre . I'm not sure how much I'm liking it but the plan is to join the squares with white using single crochet(U.K. double ) joining on the front . So hopefully that will make it look better.

I've been wanting to try this way of joining for a while now . Do take a look at Debbie's gorgeous blanket , with squares joined in this way . I love the extra texture it gives.

Trouble is that just today I found this on Pinterest....so now I'm tempted to do a white round of Double (U.K. treble )crochet on each square . Ooooh , dilemmas :0)

Speaking of Pinterest, I've been good and resisted joining so far . I've heard how addictive it can be and I already spend a lot of time online some days. It doesn't stop me looking at other lovelies collections though. Heather has a lovely collection of pins .
But I HAVE to link to Rachel's ....wow , it's huuuge and everything is such great eye candy :0)

Hope you enjoy the links .
Jacquie x

  15. I do like your little grannies Jacquie, they remind me of flags somehow. I always want to be brave and use a black or white border in my blankets but somehow always chose beige or grey instead. Black or white always look so great but seem so definite to me. I hope I can pluck up the courage to use them one day. xox Penelope
ps. I am a bit of a Pinterest addict !!!

  17. I have really got into crochet mainly from finding lucy at the attic by accident and then finding your site through her. I don't blog myself but love to tune into other bloggers that craft. (personally i think people would laugh at my stuff however i might give it a go. i just think you and lucy are so talented. It doesn't come that easy to me or maybe i'm just a little impatient. Still making the russian dolls though one of my patients was very impressed and requested one!! i've made about six of them so far and plan to give some away as presents to neices etc. just love them because they're nice and simple for my brain! well I don't think mine was half as nice as yours but I am getting better at them.Just love the stylecraft wool as well its cheap and loads of colours to choose from.Really love your blog too its great very inspiring especially at three in the morning when you cannot sleep gives me something to do!!

  25. I actually like the white centers! It's different and a bit quirky (don't know if you write it like that), and that's an element of fun in my opinion! :) Love to see how it ends up as a blanket.

  26. I like the white center and the color combination a lot :) With a white border it will look amazing I think!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I love these squares! And I think you shouldn't add another round in white; the raised border will be awesome enough :)
Can't wait to see it finished!

  30. I like the white middles. I wonder if it'd look nice joined with a chain zig-zag like this blanket of Angies... http://www.lemondedesucrette.com/2011/08/25/kaleidoscope-blanket-small-square-and-zig-zag-joining/
I'm on pinterest and do not find it addictive at all!

  32. Love these little squares, saw Heather's too and thought those simple blocks of colour were really effective. have been a bit 'off crochet' just lately but you may both be inspiring me back to the hook... x

  33. Pretty colours ... but I can see why you're torn about how much white to include, that blanket Sue pinned is gorgeous. Your coloured squares will certainly 'pop' with a nice white border :D

I don't find Pinterest too time consuming, but I use it mostly just to pin stuff so I can find it again. It's Twitter I'm resisting!
