Hello Lovelies,
Yesterday issue 16 of "Simply Crochet" magazine came out in the shops.
It was such a thrill to see it on the shelf in Morrisons.....I had to photograph it before I picked up my copy :0)
"Oh, well that's something to be proud of" she kindly replied and we got chatting about her daughters knitting.
My cowl is in a supplement that accompanies this months issue and I thought it would be small, but no, it's the same size as the main magazine............
And look what's inside the cover..........My colourful squares much larger than life............
And yet more beautiful images to accompany the pattern...........
I'm totally thrilled with how my little project looks here.
click on the photo to read it more easily.
In the bloggers supplement there are six lovely projects to crochet. The gorgeous floral clutch bag you can see inside the cover is by Tanya who blogs HERE
And here are the other four projects
Sweet flower Brooches by Rachel who blogs HERE
A happy Shopper Bag by Jules who blogs HERE
A Chunky Scarf by Rachelle who blogs HERE
and A cute Hat Pincushion by Hannah who blogs HERE
I think they are all lovely projects and I've discovered some wonderful blogs that are new to me.
To celebrate this first ever time I've had anything printed Simply Crochet have kindly offered to send two of my lovely readers ( that's you :0) ) a free copy of this issue, and what a treat it is .
In the main magazine there are absolutely loads of projects.
These are some of my favourites.......
Sweet Butterflies, I love this photo
I cute Bunny....I should make this :0)
Awwwww, adorable
Such a fun make
and, eeeeek, look at this swoon worthy riot of colour...........
I'm so tempted to start this.
As well as patterns there's wonderful inspiration. It's lovely to see Lucy's column going from strength to strength.........
If you would like the chance to win a copy simply leave me a comment on this post,
making sure I can contact you if you win.
Once I have your address I'll pass it onto the lovely people at Simply Crochet who will mail out your copy directly.
At the weekend I spent a great couple of hours with some old friends. One of this group makes wonderful jewellery from polymer clay. We all sat round another friends dining room table experimenting with this clever product.
While my friends made brooches and necklaces I played around making handles for some 4mm crochet hooks. They are not perfect but I'm actually pretty pleased with how they turned out for a first attempt.
While a simple metal hook suits me I've seen a lot of these hooks around blogland and I thought you may like the chance to try one, so I'll send one of these off to each of my winners too.
I'll draw two names out of the hat on Sunday, Good Luck!
Jacquie x
P.S. Simply crochet also have a special subscription offer HERE too if you are interested
PLEASE NOTE This Give away is now closed....thank you to everyone who entered.

So nice, to see your own project in a crochet magazine, lovely cowl! My english 's not so very good, so I will wait until I can buy the dutch translation. (For example, I read cow instead of cowl... ;-) ).
ReplyDeletePolymer clay is great stuff to work with, I love your hook-needles! Next week I have to make much beads.
Greetings from Marijke
Same here.
DeleteI didn't have a clue what "cowl" means in Dutch, so I looked it up:
The first and most evident translation= "monnikspij" and after further searching I found "capuchon", I guess it's rather the last word we have to think about :)
Congratulations - how cool is that! Your cowl is beautiful. Love those crochet hook handles, what a fantastic idea. My puppy ate my bamboo hook recently - I'm in the middle of a ripple blanket - so I've been using a metal one and having a hard time of it - it's far more slippy. I think if my hook looked like that I'd like it better!!
ReplyDeleteWould love to win a copy of Simply Crochet (can't get it here - or replacement bamboo hooks!)
Happy hooking from France
Emma

ReplyDeleteBig congratulations are in order. Up to the next project.
I have been following you for a long time now, and getting published is just what you deserve. You are SO good and you create so many beautiful things. This simply HAD do happen.
Along with all the others I am a big candidate for your give away.
Just like you, I simply adore the flower quilt (aptly called "pick a primrose") At this moment I am also working on a flower-quilt. But I don't know whether I'll ever find the courage to finish it. It takes forever:

little mistake in the message above: just had TO happen , obviously.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, how wonderful for you to have been in print. I've recently discovered your blog and have become a follower, I'm a newbie to crochet having done a class just before Christmas.

ReplyDeleteThere are so many gorgeous projects in the magazines, there's enough to keep the most dedicated busy for months. :) the butterfly bunting are gorgeous.
Hopefully it won't be long until you are asked to contribute something else.
Congratulations Jacquie, I am looking forward to getting my copy of the magazine today!! xx
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed by all you bloggy ladies getting published! I have read your blog for a good couple of years now and have used lots of your ideas and tutorials - the owls, and your flat non-wavy edging hints have been heavily used by me!
ReplyDeleteMy mum is the queen of crochet...sadly she lives quite a distance from me so she's never been able to teach me...if i'am lucky enough to win perhaps I could surprise her with a little handmade gift :)
ReplyDeleteSo, So happy for you Jacquie, you definitely deserve it. You are one of the nicest bloggers out there, with a fabulous blog and a great heart. I still use the crochet hook holder you made for me when my sister passed and over the years I have always thought of you when using it, so to see your work being published it makes my heart sing. I really hope this is the start of something wonderful. I would love to pick up a magazine and see all your fabulous work and tips every month so that the people outside the land of blog can see how talented you are.
ReplyDeleteOh and your crochet hook handles are very cool and retro :)
Congratulations, that's fantastic, you have every reason to be very proud. I hope I am lucky enough to win, it's a lovely prize.

ReplyDeleteStephanie. stephanie_cheung22@hotmail.com
Congratulations Jacquie I love your blog and could not be more delighted for you. Your cowl is beautiful and I am so pleased for you to have it in print. How lovely to have the chance to tell the lady in the supermarket 'I did that!' and to own your success.
ReplyDeleteI bought some Fimo clay a while back to make handles for my hooks but wondered does it stick well to the hook and not become loose and is it more comfy to crochet? My most recent purchase was an illuminated crochet hook which is surprisingly effective especially on dark wools.
What a beautiful cowl and the hooks look great. I wonder if my Morrison's has the magazine... x
ReplyDeleteYour work is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations - the cowl is beautiful
ReplyDeleteHow fantastic being in a magazine, very well done. I think I may try and make this, although I am only a beginner but it seems a good size project for me to start with.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Your cowl just looks so stunning :) I would love to win the magazine, hopefully I'm one of the lucky winners :)
ReplyDeletedicitur@web.de
You and Lucy, Attic 24 inspired me to learn to crochet, and now I have nearly as much wool as fabric. I aim to take out a subscription to the magazine. Those crochet handles look fun, I have a set of ordinary hooks but may have to buy some fat ones to try.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Jacqui on being published! What a lovely reward for your efforts.
ReplyDeleteNothing like a giveaway to inspire lots of comments! It's great - everyone here can explore each others' blogs and so the blogosphere expands with more ideas and new friends. I am looking forward to that as much as seeing the Simply Crochet issue first hand. I have a number of Simply Crochet issues but I don't buy every one due to a very tight budget. I will have to make a special effort to get your issue in my library. Congrats again, and well done!
Wow!! You must be so chuffed!!! Congratulations, beautiful cowl xxx
ReplyDeleteWow Jacquie I am so pleased for you! I've been reading your blog for a good while now and it always cheers me up, inspires me and makes me smile. It's lovely to think how many more people may find you now too via the magazine :) don't go turning into a diva now you are famous though will you? ;)

ReplyDeleteWe do get Simply Crochet on the Barnes & Noble newsstands over here, but ... I would also love to win a copy. Your experimental crochet hook handles look rather expert to me. Bravo on that front, too.
xo
Congratulations! and thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say congratulations in getting your cowl pattern in print - how exciting :) I used to crochet many years ago and have been thinking recently of trying again, so would be great to win mag and hook to get me started again. Your tutorials look fantastic as well x

ReplyDeleteHearty Congratulations, Jacquie. Your cowl looks stunning and has been modelled well.
ReplyDeleteI am excited to see that a famous magazine encourages bloggers thus. Its quite inspiring. Blogland can be a lonely place and one has to motivate (push) to keep posting specially when you dont know if anyone is reading your stuff at all. I gave up blogging, because I couldnt push myself enough. So cheers to you and all the bloggers out there, who keep going no matter what. You have given me crafts to enjoy and learn. I love your drawings, nature posts, birding etc. Thanks Jacquie.
Congrats!! I love Simply Crochet but here in the US they sell them a few issues behind... I had to special order the Lucy debut issue so I wouldn't have to wait until Christmas, hahaha.
