October Colour and Crochet

Hello Lovelies,
yesterday we finally got some bright weather and I went around the garden looking for a few remaining blooms to pick for a bit of a seasonal celebration :0)

The last of my William Morris roses, some self seeded Marigolds, a little Sedum and Verbena.
They made a pretty and colourful display............

The colours went perfectly with the pumpkin I bought, ready to carve later this month..........

We may even have to get the power tools out to carve it again this year....I'd forgotten about THIS till Jones reminded me when we were at Yarndale:0)

But the main reason for this little celebration was my latest crochet project............

Did you spot it?

I was very tempted to start a blanket with my  yummy new autumnal colours of Stylecraft yarn, but I need to concentrate on finishing my spring circle blanket first.

So instead I made a mandala.

Ta-dah...........

I'm so happy with how it turned out.

This time of year much of my inspiration comes from the changing colours of the leaves. I wanted to include these in my mandala, and after much pondering and experimentation I figured out how.

Each leaf is individually made........constructed already attached to the centre of the mandala......

then I added a chain round to the tops of the leaves and continued on from there.............

I'm tempted to stiffen it with glue like we did for the Yarndale mandalas, I think it would look great hanging on the wall..........

But for now I'm happy to see it peeking out from under my favourite jug.............

The low October sun is shining right into my lounge and I brought my little jug of flowers and colourful crochet in here so I could see them bathed in that glorious light while I enjoyed a home baked treat.........

♥ Happy, happy, Happy

I do hope you lovelies are enjoying these inspiring Autumn or Spring days too.

  21. Wow, how inventive and fabulous! That's what I love about crochet, is you don't need a pattern, you can just create to your heart's content! I *LOVE* it! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  22. I just did an audible sigh at the sight of the sun, the cake and the idea of sitting there with some crochet. Blissful. The autumn mandala is lovely, and so are the flowers. Such colour still out there in the garden. Using power tools on a pumpkin is an excellent idea, they're so tricky to hollow out. I've bought a couple of turk's turbans this year, they were being sold outside a house nearby and they were only £1 each. I'm not sure if they're carvable, but I think they'd look fab with a couple of eyes in them. Wishing a good weekend. CJ xx

  36. I can only identify the rose and the marigold in that lovely bunch of flowers, I'll have to brush up on my gardening skills! Also I love the mandala. I just want to say that I used your double v stitch edging on a baby blanket that I made for my friend's little boy and it worked a treat, Thanks for sharing, Holly

  38. Your mandala looks really well - gorgeous colours. I have to admit that I also bought some Stylecraft in the autumn colours and have staretd a blanket. But I'm also going to make leaves and some sort of wall hanging with them. Hopefully some crocheted chillis too, if I can work out how to make them.
