Afternoon Light

Hello Lovelies,
Sunday was bright and frosty. Just the sort of day to get outdoors.

I longed to walk, but other errands beckoned.

Happily, on the way home I grabbed the opportunity to get outdoors before darkness fell. I decided not to travel all the way home in our car, but to get hubby to drop me off a couple of miles from home.

It was just after 3pm and the light was glorious........

The temperature was barely above freezing and  the frost was still thick where the suns rays had not reached........

looking back  you can clearly see the difference.........

I LOVED the bright sunlight illuminating the inside of the tunnel under the railway line.......

and the fields beyond looked magical........

Both up close......

and into the distance, the world looked gorgeous..........

Looking up at the bare branched tree silhouettes along the horizon I loved all the different shapes.....

Climbing the hill was welcome exercise and warmed me up on such a chilly afternoon. The distant view was lost in a mist the stayed in the valley all day...........

and soon the sun had disappeared below the horizon, just a hazy glow in a sky full of wispy cloud.
But the bleak winter landscape still looked beautiful.......

I hurried home, happy to have been outdoors. But as darkness fell I was very happy to get home to my family and our cosy home.

I like to see weather effects on nature. The planet is frozen today!!! My area is really cold today -30°c and I miss to see grass.

  10. You had the right idea to get out of the car early. How beautiful the light was, especially framing the fields in the distance from the tunnel. The close ups of the frost are just beautiful, shots like this always remind me of sugar frosting and just look delicious!! Have a wonderful week xx

  19. Oh how I love the countryside in winter, it's utterly beautiful. I especially love the tree silhouettes on the horizon and the last photo, they sum up what I like most about it - the bare trees and hedgerows, and how open and visible everything is. Nothing beats a winter country walk, arriving home just after dark, wonderful. CJ xx

  20. Hi Jacquie
What a contrast between your lovely winter and our dangerous summer down here.
Your walk would have been lovely. I do hope you were well rugged up for it. It is such a pretty part of the world where you live.

  24. A winter wonderland, even without the snow! Such beauty, thanks for sharing. A very cold and heavily frosted morning here (especially for the Southern US) -13C this morning!

  25. Jacquie, these photographs are such a pleasure to see. Thank you for taking that walk home through the frosty landscape...with your camera at hand.

In my many trips to the UK, I've never really spent time in the Midlands. Your posts are convincing me that I have missed so much beauty...in the landscape and also in the inhabitants! xo

  32. Oh, afternoon light in the winter - I think it's one of our rewards for putting up with the short, dark days. Gorgeous photos, I love how the sun looks on the frost. Happy new year to you Jacquie. xx

  33. Beautiful pictures. I love to see poplar trees lined up in a row. They remind me of my grandma who planted some at her old house. She died when I was little but the trees were there for decades and made Mum and I smile when we occasionally drove past! x
