This Weekend

Hello Lovelies,
first I need to say a huge thank you for your well wishes and your super kind comments on my latest drawing.....you never fail to make me feel blessed to have found this wonderfully supportive space.

We were lucky with the weather this weekend. It was cold but beautifully bright and sunny. My Amaryllis positively glowed on the kitchen windowsill..........

It's been a two month wait to see these stunning red blooms, but so very worth it.

I would have liked to have taken it into the lounge to enjoy it on the mantle....but it's rather unstable......

the only way I can keep it from falling over is to hook the blind cord around its stem:0)

I do love these indoor bulbs.

On Sunday morning I went for a walk with a friend. Sadly I don't think she really  saw any of the beautiful places we walked through.........

Her life is  difficult right now and there's a lot of hurt. I listened and hoped it helped.

After a climb up through woodland we came to this elevated spot. How I loved the far reaching views across the city from here...........

We plan to walk again in a couple of weeks......I hope that the walking will help as much as the listening...I hope.

Sitting down to our usual roast dinner afterwards, I looked at my family and felt especially blessed.

From the dining table I could also see the bird feeders in the garden....which seemed to have a lot of four legged visitors..........

I decided to go and sit quietly in the garden.  After a while the little garden birds I love so much came quiet close.........

It was relaxing, but too chilly to sit for long. Soon  I was happy to get back inside our warm house and enjoy an afternoon treat...........

and to sit quietly with my hook..........

Thank you for listening to me.

  1. I'm sure your friend really appreciated your walk together. Even though she may not seem to have noticed the surroundings I think such beauty is bound to have had an uplifting effect.

  2. Sometimes a good friend listening is the best help there is and the beauty was bound to soak in too, even though she may not have noticed at the time. I've looked for some of those beautiful bulbs in our shops but haven't had any luck so I'm enjoying seeing them on all of the blogs I read. Beautiful blanket. I love all of the color in your home.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  6. Walking in the countryside and talking to a friend are two of the very best things when times are hard I think. I'm sure it helped her as much as anything could, and I do hope that you're able to do it again, and that things change for her and she finds happiness before very long. Your photos are beautiful, it was a gorgeous weekend wasn't it. Wishing you a very lovely week Jacquie. CJ xx

  8. Having a good friend listen is such a help - honestly. I'm in a similar position at the moment. Knowing someone is there is worth so much.
Your crochet is looking great too - and a nice way to relax after your walk. x

  9. Listening to someone talk and saying nothing is often the most helpful thing you can do. You are a wonderful friend to spend the time caring in this way.

  10. Your Amaryllis is beautiful. I often buy them as gifts but have never treated myself! (I'm a bit of a failure as far as house plants go!! ). You gave your friend one of most precious gifts - to listen. Hopefully next time she will be able to enjoy the scenery a little more. What a blessing to have your precious family to return home to. Xx

I'm sure you being there to listen to your friend would help her and maybe next time she will be able to enjoy some of the beauty around her.
    Take care

  12. A non-judgemental ear and the magic of fresh air can't fail to have helped, even if your friend hasn't noticed straight away xx

  13. How lucky for your friend that you took photos of the scenery so that when she is ready, she can appreciate what she missed when she was appreciating your listening ear instead. A good hearty walk is a great physical way to channel emotional energy or distress leaving room for calm to return which can only help reasoning and problem solving. You are a kind friend.

  15. I love your blog so much! I love seeing your walks, your flowers & your crochet. Sometimes we need to be reminded to cherish simple things...when things are going well AND in the midst of hard things. I am sure the walks will help your friend, just keep encouraging her.

I have an amaryllis blooming now as well! I'm waiting on 6 more stalks to bloom, my kitchen windowsill is full from after Christmas clearance sales. :)

I love the last photograph, seeing the beauty you're working on & the finished one on your chair.

  16. Your amaryllis glows indeed! A handy little helping hand there with the cord. : ) I imagine the walk did help your friend even if it wasn't noticeable, a walk in nature helps the soul and I'm sure having you there to listen did as well. I can never keep bird feeders, the other wildlife takes over. I just love your heart mug! I see you're "on the edge" of your blanket, it's getting close then. Have a great day! x

  17. Your amaryllis is beautiful. It really does glow. I think it's smart to use the blinds cord to restrain it. I once had an amaryllis just like that, really tall and leaning over, that I kept on the windowsill above my bed and guess what happened! I'm glad you were there for your friend. I'm sure she appreciated it very much.

  18. You are a great friend. Sometimes just getting out and walking and talking goes a long way toward healing. I know she appreciated your time. She is very lucky to have a friend like you. That amaryllis is amazing. I've never had one and that glowing red makes me want one so badly. Next year??? Have a great week, Jacquie

  19. The saying 'a problem shared is a problem halved' is so true sometimes. The fact that you listened would have helped I am sure, as well as the sunshine and the gorgeous views. Looking at your gorgeous amaryllis, crochet, little treats and the wildlife, sometimes the simple things in life give so much joy. Your friend is very lucky to have such a true friend such as you. Have a wonderful week. Chel x

  20. Going for a lovely walk and being listened to by someone supportive and kind is a healing, therapeutic experience, and following your lovely blog is a joy :) Your wildlife photos are great - birds always seem to fly away as soon as I press the button my camera! The crochet's looking good too :)

  22. Love that amaryllis, mine is still a little shoot about an inch high! I'm hoping for gorgeous colour eventually!! And absolutely, the listening helps... in fact I think, listening much more than being talked at I have found, and often the best time to talk is doing something side by side like walking when the intensity of a face to face conversation is just lessened a bit. I have found lots of comfort in online 'listeners' too, hope your friend finds a way to resolve the hurt. xxx

  25. The best thing a good friend can do is just be there. And I'm sure she was well aware that you care. I love your flower. It really is beautiful and the blanket looks awfully cuddly.
