Drawing Again

Hello Lovelies,
This week I've been inspired to get out my sketchbook, for the first time in ages........

Looking inside I can see that the last A4 drawing ( well collage and drawing)  I did was back in February last year........

That was a drawing of a walk....as was my first attempt at a return to drawing  ( back in 2013)  HERE

The thing that had inspired me to pick up my pencils this time was also seen on a recent walk.
I was very taken with this unusual cottage and mentioned in THIS post how I could just imagine it in summer....with it's roses flowering around the door............

So on Wednesday I started sketching....then drawing......then going over my drawing with a fine pen....as I usually do.

Here I've just started the best bit...the colouring in...........

and the roses were one of the first things I did :0)

I've been feeling a bit rubbish this week....with a chesty cough and aching muscles. So yesterday I decided against joining my beloved group walk this week. I was so sad to miss out.....but rather glad to be indoors colouring when the heavy showers passed through...........

It was very plesant to sit quietly with my pencils and draw summer.

Here's the finished picture....Ta-Dah.........

You can click on the photo to make it bigger.

I had a lot of fun with this ...I totally made up the setting....though I did include the church which was in the same village....just not where I drew it............

I put in a figure....I'm not great at drawing people, but I do like to see them in a picture...so I gave it a go..........

and a post box, and a line full of washing, with pretty rooftops behind.

To the left of the cottage I added my bike, and a garden, with butterflies on the Buddlia..........

I love how the cottage turned out, pretty much exactly as I had imagined it..........

With it's colourful pots and window box, the door open, ready for visitors to step inside. Tom Tit perched proudly on the chimney pot.

and his mate perched delicately in the roses.....this was a fluke...I drew a rose that ended up looking more like a bird ....so it became one :0)

Having a cheerful picture to show for my missed miles helps reduce my frustration greatly. It makes me smile........

I do hope it makes you smile too.
Jacquie x

  2. I am in awe of your beautiful drawing talent. I think you could become a very successful artist Jacquie! Seriously. I see a line of greeting cards, calendars and such with your very cheerful drawings. You did indeed make me smile and wish I could draw even a line a well as you do. I hope you are feeling well again very soon. It seems to be a common thread round the world of winter colds and coughs.
    Blessings,

  10. What a lovely drawing! Or is it called a sketch? I have NO talent when it comes to drawing, so I am afraid I am not very good with the terminology. But I do know what I like, and I do like this. Hope you are feeling better soon...:)

  12. I always read your blog but haven't always left comments but I have to leave one today. I adore your picture and I would love to be walking past that cottage right now. You have captured England so well in it, from the cottage, the rose's, the letter box, line of washing etc. The colours are gorgeous and I love your style of drawing. I hope you continue to draw more you have a great talent. Maybe you could design your own cards or even transfer this for cross stitch its a gorgeous picture and has certainly made me smile this morning. Hope you feel better soon I have had this throat bug for weeks dreaded thing. dee x

  21. I love your blog. It is so refreshing to find someone else who loves to draw and colour and is willing to share it. Thank you for always reminding me of the simple pleasure of drawing and playing with coloured pencils. My times spent colouring and painting with my children are precious memories and a simple way to foster togetherness while being creative. Even if I haven't drawn a picture myself today, seeing your work on my blogreader with your delightful subjects and colours have left me with a smile and feeling good. :-)

  33. I love all those personal details in your gorgeous drawing Jacquie. I am sure the owners of the cottage would love to have a copy! I remember when I used to live in my old thatched cottage that people would take photos and some would sit on a field nearby drawing and painting. I would have loved to have seen the finished work and only ever received one copy in the time I was there - she gave me an idea to change the colour of the roses that were climbing the walls :-) !! I hope your little bug is over soon, I'm pretty sure I'm also coming down with something - feeling a bit lethargic. Have a good weekend. Chel xx

  34. It really did make me smile, and makes me dream and long for those long, warm summer days. They feel very far away with the thunder, lightning and hailstones we've had today! I hope your bug passes quickly, mine seems to be clinging on as hard as it can :( xx
