Whitby Weekending :: Part 2

Hello lovelies,
coming down to sea level from the bright sunshine on the moors, mum and I were slightly disappointed to find Whitby under a blanket of cloud...........

We headed off to find our Bed and Breakfast accommodation and made ourselves comfy in the cosy  bedroom, in a traditional Victorian terraced guest house close to the sea front.

To be honest I was feeling a little weary from all the driving and hill climbing so I was rather glad of a sit down an front of the telly :0)

About 6pm mum said" oh, look at the light"
....oh yes...a golden glow. I jumped up and headed out in search of the sunset............

The sea was so calm, with barely a ripple on the surface, and the Seagulls sat around on any handy perch, to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere..........

It's quiet a dramatic and timelessly beautiful view down into the harbour from up on the West cliff.......

There were lots of people walking on the west pier..........

and I couldn't resist joining them............

The views from here were magical...........

I loved the cloud formations and the sunset reflected in the unusually calm  North sea..........

This pier is simple, functional structure and I loved it for it's sense of calm and unspoilt views.........

It was so still and mild I had to keep reminding myself this was a mid October evening in the North of England............

At the entrance to the wooden section of the pier there were some beautiful gates..........

I loved the view back toward the land from out here..........

and the ever changing cloud and  light to my right..........

Aware it would soon be dark and mum must be wondering what I was doing I walked back towards land...........

Pretty lights were coming on beside the harbour................

Oh, Whitby....you really captivated me..........

I'd love to visit this gorgeous and characterful town again before too long.
Of course we were not leaving yet....mum and I had two more days of our mini holiday to look forward to.....yay!

As promised in my previous post here is the painting mum did of the view towards Goathland that afternoon.........

Back soon with part three :0)

  1. I was there a couple of months ago and it took my breath away (and nearly my mum's fingers as the wind was quite icy next to the abbey!). The views you have captured are so calming and still. I love your mum's painting capturing the amazing sky. Looking forward to part 3 xx

  4. What fantastic photos of Whitby. It's somewhere I've heard so much about, I'd love to visit it one day. I especially love the last picture of it, with all the twinkly lights. Your mum's picture is gorgeous, and all the more special for having such good memories of time spent together no doubt. It sounds like a really lovely break. You've made me heave a happy sigh! CJ xx

  5. Your photos are fabulous, Jacquie. I'm seriously considering upgrading my camera as I can never capture the light like that with mine. It's lovely that you're getting to spend so much time with your Mum - one day you'll ask yourself "did I do enough?" and your answer will be "yes". xx
