Do You Amigurumi ???

Hello Lovelies ,
I'm in the process of writing out the tutorial for my baby bunny . It should be ready Wednesday I hope .
In the mean time I thought we could have a little chat about Amigurumi.
Strange word that ...just seeing it written down , and being a touch dyslexic , it took me ages to work out how to pronounce it.In fact I probably still haven't got it right :0)
However you want to say it here's a good description.

The first time I attempted this type of crochet was a couple of years ago. .....

This cute little fella was made using a free pattern on the talented Anna Paula Rimolis' blog. There are currently 16 free patterns on her site , just click on patterns ,which are listed under Labels in her side bar.
This chap was quickly snapped up by my eldest ,which led to a request from the other two for their own .
So I invested in this book also by Anna.I made these two cuties....

First I made the dog ...took quite a while ....all that single crochet( U.S.) worked in a spiral. There's lots of marking rounds and counting stitches.

I'm O.K. with the head and body but I must admit to getting a bit fed up with the fiddly limbs and ears....there's so many of them .Eleven separate parts for the dog.The Octopus cured me of Amigurumi for a LONG time, even though it had less parts , making eight identical legs was rather tedious :0)....

That said ,I do like these cute creatures so I wanted to have another try.My baby bunny is simple....just 4 parts as I made the head and body as one piece and didn't bother with any limbs .....

I think she still looks cute and is very simple to make . I'll be including some tips in my tutorial for those who haven't done this type of crochet before .Hopefully she's an ideal first Amigurumi project .

  1. Hi Jacquie, these are all so so sweet! Really beautifully made.. I LOVE amigurumi, ever since I heard about it I bought a book from Amazon and I have just started trying to teach myself (having never crocheted a stitch before in my life!)... I have just written a post over on my blog about a little dog that I am trying to make... having a few problems with it but I am trying to persevere!! Thanks for sharing these piccies and links to the patterns - I would love to see more of your little crochet creatures if you make any more! Hope you have a good week, Sarah x

  2. Well done on creating an easy to crochet amigurumi! Bunny is very cute. I love how they look but I hate sewing the little bits on. I made a cow for my brother's friend for his birthday last year and I think he will be almost a year older before he gets it because although it will look great when finished, it has so many bits. I am currently 3/4 way through my own bunny too with the aim of not having to sew anything on at all as well. Rachael Xx

I missed the name of the show but it looked just like your critters. Cheers, Yollie xx

  5. Hey Jacquie, I look forward to reading your tutorial.
Love your amigurumi creatures, just too cute, especially the bear and honey jar.
Completely understand how the Octopus cured you of your amigurumi ways for awhile. Glad you are back into it as your baby bunny is just gorgeous, love the floral ears, very Spring.

  6. I am a bit like you - I love the way they look but just don't have the patience for all the fiddliness. Yours are gorgeous, and your bunny is low on the fiddly-factor, so yes, it'll be great for beginners.

  12. I created some camels from my own design (link below if you're interested). So much fun! I'm not sure whether they technically count as amigumuri? I can't say or spell that word either!!

  14. Hi Jacquie, your little animals are so cute! I love this style of crochet and use it for my big softies, but I must admit I have trouble creating exactly the same size limbs, there always seems to be one arm or leg that is slightly bigger than the other! Obviously I can't count to save myself!! I have just been making it up as I go along, so it would be good to try and follow someone else's' pattern and see if I can get the right size. Have a great week! Julie x

  24. Funny this. I'v just written a blog about this (http://happyinred.blogspot.com/2011/03/gehaakte-beestjes.html) as I am not too sure about crocheting little critters, something with the fiddling! But they just look so cute and I have such soft yarn laying around, I should just try it I think. Can't wait for the tuto!

  26. Ooh Jacquie you have to get the book I posted about a few months ago. You will LOVE IT! (the one I bought, not the one I waited aaagggeeess for from the library). Actually come to think about it, I've still not made anything from it, oopsie! But it has some fab things to make, some of which I posted pics of in my post. So yes, I love amigurumi! Have seen Ana's blog, sounds like it's definitely worth a visit.

I love the little creatures that you made - they look brill, I'm so excited to click onto your bunny tutorial, yippeeee!
